Hello guys,
I am seeking the method of drawing pixel art water. I have done searches for water reflections in relation to pixel art and have so far come up dry(No pun intended). If anyone knows where I can track down the information regarding what I seek, please let me know. Also, if any knows how to, can you help me out? Thanks again for your time and have a great day! Water is a true pixelling test and there is no straight out tutorial that I'm aware of. Its best to experiment with your pixel, until something happens. My advice with water is keep it simple for the best illusion.

Hi. I also attempted pixelling water, but it wasn't anything special. It's called "Coconut Water" - it's in my gallery if you want to take a look, but it's only water drops that I was experimenting with. What I found with water drops is that the important things are the edges and magnification. Drops act pretty much likt a magnifying glass on the surface, so anything inside of it should be bigger. I also made whatever was inside darker.
Edges - I found that a white highlight around one edge, and a darker tone of colour on the opposite side brings out a watery effect as long as the shape is right. (It's a little hard to explain but it kinda works.)
But these are only for drops. I haven't yet tried a full ocean/sea so I'm not too sure how useful this information will be to you.
anyway...Good luck!!! Edited by Stickman - 25 May 2007 at 7:27am |
