Age matters only in the fact that you'd have to be available for a minimum of 100 hours a month, and priority will go to those who can work a full 160 hours a month... If you're younger, but you've still got the skills and time neccessary, feel free to apply.

160hrs a month, so it will be working from monday-friday(8hrs per day) is it?
Will we need to be constantly on the internet when working to time our daily work? I mean, what are the working system and conditions? |

You can work any combination of hours you like, so long as projects are completed by their deadlines. I usually work Sunday- Friday, but the numebr of hours varies by what needs to be done. You can work extra time, if you want, though it's billed at the standard rate. Most of the team is on MSN Messenger while they're working, so if their team leader needs to get ahold of them, or they have any questions, they're accessible. Meetings are either conducted through group chat on MSN, or on our IRC server, depending on how many people are about. Actual work is reviewed by myself, and sometimes the producer, and final assets have to be properly formatted, according to guidelines we have in place. Final work is usually delivered in .png, in sheet form, though we are developing an in-house tool for compacting graphical assets. |

thanks...are deadlines usually tight? Approximately how many weeks do
we have to finish the graphics for one game, like for an action game
for the series 60?

It usually depends on the client...if it's an in-house original IP, then we can take longer. If it's a licenced game for another company, they may have their own deadlines. An action game would take about 3-5 weeks for gfx, depending on the complexity...something like a puzzle game would be a week, tops. I've done an entire puzzle game in about 8 hrs (excluding splashes). Branded titles can vary greatly, and sometimes we can get crappy deadlines...I remember we once had to pull off 10 games for Sony Ericsson in only 9 days (gfx, code, QA, everything)...but that's usually very rare. |

Im really tempted to apply, only things that might restrict me is that I am 16, so that would have to be considered.

Take advantage of this folks... working remotely on pixel art games isn't an opportunity that you should let slip by. Get off your duffs and contact nvision about the position! You don't want to end being a corporate whore like me do you?

i would have applied, but the thing is im gonna start a new 4 year school course that'll use up lotsa time.. i would have about (keeping weekends off) 5 hours pixeling, 7-8 hours at school, and some 2-3 more on homework every day =14-16 hours a day.. plus i need to eat and sleep.. it'd kill me... so for now ill just pixel my own non deadlined games, and maybe the occasional freelance job.. its a hella nice offer though =D 3 thumbs up! |

Hey everyone..thanks for all of the submissions you sent my way. There were a lot of great portfolios that I had to comb through. It was pretty difficult choosing, but I've settled on two artists to help us out. If I didn't get back to you with a review, please send me another email, and I can give you some pointers for future reference. If we're hiring again I'll be sure to post here first! |

Hey dudes, I'm back again, and we're looking for two more f/t artists. We're looking to move to a purely full-time art staff, so if you've got the skills feel free to drop me a line with your portfolio. Most of the details are the same as at the top of the thread, with a few exceptions: -We're ideally looking for artists who live in Britain/Europe, though the work is still performed remotely (it's a time-zone thing) -Applicants should be able to commit AT LEAST 100hrs a month...if you're in school or have another job or something, this is probably not for you Again, the work is ongoing, and paid monthly by direct deposit. You should be proficient in all areas of game graphics, and eager to work in a professional game development environment. You can contact me at ian.maclean (at) maxartists.com Peace! |

If you have a beef with Bjorn, take it up with him...seeing as you haven't had any dealings with the company in several months, and haven't had the courtesy to reply to emails, I wouldn't go about casting aspersions. |

Nvision: This is most awesomely interesting. I'm 17 years old and finishing highschool in a matter of weeks, so after that I am free to look at working full time. I shall email you as soon as I have sorted through my works to build my portfolio, or would a Pixel Joint Gallery be enough at this stage? I hope I havent missed any deadlines!( I can't believe I only just found this!) |

nvision\Ian - your reply really surprised me. I thought we are on the better terms that this.
I dont have a "beef" with Bjorn, he just doesnt care and I obviously cant do anything about it. What I posted here was for you to consider, not any kind of "revenge" or so. I am not dealing with the company anymore, thats true, and you know the reason - which is more then perfectly legit. Also I asure you that I replyed to every email that made it to my mailbox! (There probably been a mess with MA mailserver again because I know of some of my mails to Bjorn that never reached him too (or so he claims). So if you sent me email and didnt get automatic delivery-confirmation from me, then I never saw it. If it is\was importatnt, please try to resend to <jan.halfar AT paula.cz>, thank you.) Jan, my apologies if I came off as being abrupt... however, if Bjorn wishes to hire more people, to replace artists that have left recently, it is his right to do so. I know the reason you left, and I respect it. I am also leaving to work on other projects, and to get back into traditional illustration, so I am trying to find replacements as a personal and professional favour. I want to make sure that there are sufficient means to keep business running smoothly there, as just leaving them high and dry without enough artists to complete projects wouldn't help anyone in this case. iSTVAN: Feel free to send along a gallery link at your leisure...as long as you have a good mix of elements in there, it should be sufficient |

Wait a minute; Bjorn is still on staff? What the hell? AND YOU GUYS STILL OWE ME $800!
Ian, seriously, what the heck is the situation of the company? I've been wanting to get on board, and even made a topic at the MAXartists forum, but no useful reply; it's like everyone at that company is living in fantasy land. And all the newbies you're sucking back in with the promise of an awesome job - tsk tsk! |

Thats why I was questioning the tread here. Edited by Riva |

Okay, this is getting out of control. Unless Nvision can clear the name of MAXartists and prove that his company does not fail to pay their artists than I dont see how Pixel Joint can continue to support such corrupt job offers. This is really quite disappointing. |

Oy, don't shoot the messenger...if Bjorn says he wants to hire people, it's his responsibility to take care of the business details, not mine. I'm just forwarding applicants right now, and I'm working on other projects...I hired two artists back in August, one of them disapeared after a week, and one stayed on, and the last I heard, he was paid up to date, last week. You guys should feel lucky that you are only waiting on such a small amount...I've been waiting on a significantly larger sum for some time (over 10x what you're owed Aside from that, trash-talking the company doesn't help anyone...it only puts things further behind, and will likely increase the time it will take to get everyone paid up to date, and those who want to work, working again... Dorian>As far as I know, a new VC investor(s) has been signed, and things should be up and running shortly. Bjorn is moving to a strictly f/t art staff, so if you can work 100+ hrs a month, you could send him an email... You'll have to use your own discretion, but I wouldn't start anything until you get that last $800 that you're owed... Edited by nvision |

Hey, yeah, sorry for trash talking the company. Ian is an outstanding guy; so to everyone who applied; I wouldn't worry too much about it. I am disappointed that Bjorn is still on; after the way he handled things in the past. It's not so much that the company went under that upsets me, it's Bjorn's constant lying and stalling for time, all the while obvious the money was never there. That's what really gets to me and why I am surprised such a liar is still in charge (if that is still his position). And if things had been handled properly from the start this would never have happened so I see trash talking as being in order. And as far as I know people are actually handling the situation quite well and are understanding. You would think that after all this time I would have cooled off but I still am a little pissed about the whole situation. I'm actually working for a company at the moment; however I don't think this offer will be around forever so I wanted something lined up for the future (100 hours a month would be no problem). |

I'm not sure how much I should be saying, but I think I should try to clear the air a little, before everyone gets the wrong idea...(my apologies if I give out more information that I should be, but I don't want this to adversely affect my own reputation) About 7 months ago, it was discovered that a sister company of CSP had been essentially embezzling profits and witholding development funds from them. In order to hold the other company, Digame, culpable for the money the had misappropriated, CSP declared formal bankruptcy (as sufficent funds were unavailable to continue regular operation). This legally brought the situation to light, and made Digame responsible for the mess. CSP was allowed to carry over it's assets and I.P. to a clone company, under their publishing name of MaxArtists, provided all current employees were taken over as well. New contracts were issued, but there was still insufficient startup captial, as a settlement had not been reached with Digame. Deals and requests were still coming in from other companies, so business was continued with a core staff (as many people either left or stopped working, while they waited on previous payment). During this time, investors were sought, to get enough capital to bring things back up to full capacity, but suitable contract conditions could not be aggreed upon... At the moment, a suitable investor has apparently been found, and signed, and things should be getting back to their previous running state. I continued working the entire time, hoping that things would be rectified in that time...I don't hold Bjorn personally responsible for the roller-coaster ride of the past few months...I just think a sh*tty situation arose, and it took longer to rectify than originally anticipated. If he believes that things are stable enough to recruit new talent, then I choose to trust him that it is so. |
