I guess really, it's just one big question. What is the best way to start flash. I really want to get into using Flash, but I have no idea where to begin. Any sites with programs for flash or any help on the basics of flash, anything, would be great.

Thanks to anyone who can help me in any way.

Yeah, I don't really know what you mean by "programs".  The newest version of Flash by Macromedia is about all you need. There are other apps that produce SWF files, but they have specific purposes. Macromedia Flash MX 2004 can do everything if you've got the dough to throw down.

You only tried flash for as long as you have the time to edit this post? Of course you won't get anything out of it. Besides combining Pixel Art with Flash is a really good way to attract attention. And I think that's exactly what Garage Inc is thinking about. I learned most of what I know about Flash in flashkit.com

Practicing real useful things, in my opinion, is the best way to learn anything really.

BTW if you have any problems you can contact me, I'll be glad to help.

Zoomrix, I am totally new to Flash. I honestly know, almost, nothing about it. Do you think you, or anyone else who knows, could expliane exactly what Flash is and how you use it. I am reading some stuff here, http://www.kirupa.com/ , to, but if you could explaine that, im sure it would help so much.

Lol, that's a bit strange, you aren't familiar with a program but you are enthusiastic to start learning it... Oh well guess it's some kind of feeling

(I won't even try to sound smart explaining the program, I'll just explain what you can do with it)

I'm sure you've seen flash all over the web: in banners, games or even full websites. Flash is a program to make gizmos like games, animations (with transitions and all that crap). It has it's own "programming language" called Action Script with which you can make a car move, or a sprite walk up left right and down.

(If anyone more experienced with flash than I, can explain better - be my guest)

I suggest you start with the very complete basics. I think Kirupa will do just that.

If you don't know the basics of flash then you probably won't be able to do most of the interesting things that flash can offer. If you don't know how to convert an object to a movie clip, trust me - you won't get past the "Beginner" level... I know, I've tried.

Again, pardon the unprofessional explanation.

Good luck.

Ok, so I am reading through some stuff and I am at this page.

http://www.kirupa.com/web/mysql_intro.htm

and I read this.

"This tutorial will show you how to create and query a database using SQL and the mySQL command terminal. If you don't currently have mySQL installed head over to www.mysql.com and go grab yourself a copy after all its totally free!! With mySQL installed on your system you are good to go and create your first database."

So I went to www.mysql.com and I think I downloaded the right thing. I'm pretty sure you need that to program in flash. Am I totally wrong or do I have the right idea. If I have the right idea, where would it be on my computer. I ran a search for mySQL things and it brought me to this on folder, but I couldn't find anything. If im totally wrong, what do I need to download besides Macromedia Flash MX?

... I think first you should learn the basics of flash before even thinking about programming in flash. And you'll only learn the basics when you can make a simple button animation on rollover and things like that. And mysql for flash? That's at first for me. I just put in codes inside flash using ActionScript and no mySQL required.

The tutorial you were reading was for PHP and XML, not flash  I'm sure you knew that but please explain what you were doing there.

Woops, I really should pay more attention, thanks. Haha.

If your interested with games and incorporating pixelart and flash together, I highly suggest talking to marmotte. He is a regular (atleast from what I remember) at flashkit.com I believe he programs and does his own art for all his games. Daydream is big in that too, except he doesnt do alot of the coding.

Before I was into pixelart I was into flash. www.flashkit.com is an amazing place.

The tutorials teach you the basics and that forum is incredibly helpful. If you explain your problems fully they will sometimes even give you the code you need or help you through. Great place to start.
