Another piece from yet another notebook sketch-turned pixel art. Im thinking of not using the very glossy highlights which are used in this piece because they give too much of a glassey illusion but im not entirely sure what other texture to go with..

I really like this. What will make it awesome is clean lines and good AA; I think it's demanded by this style. I edited the index finger to illustrate some problems in those areas:



I really think you should be constantly looking for lines that can be cleaned up, and especially lines that can be turned into 1,1,1... or 2,2,2... steps. Lines like that don't need AA.

Also, when AAing gentle angles on long lines, you have to use more than single pixels of AA color. There's lots of science and math behind this, and I don't pretend to understand much of it, but this awesome image made by Neota might give you an idea of why it's necessary:

It might be an idea to let the black keys stick out, just as on a real piano?

-Other black key done

-Some more cleaning up around the lines

-Extended side face of the first key so it doesnt look like it stops even though the other part of it doesn't

 

Get rid of the highlight on the black key.  Nothing else in the entire thing has a highlight.

Either get rid of it, or highlight other things that'd be affected by the light..

Also, the middle section of the index finger should be the lighter color as well - it seems to be on the same plane as the rest of the side of that finger

A square musical note or two might not hurt.

I do belive this is bump worthy: I can't decide on the style/colors to go with, im stuck between these two::

I think you should make a mix in my opinion, Use the white and purple keyboard with the blue hand. That purple really blends well with the black keyboard notes.

terrible. go back to purple-blue. specially the purple w/o the dithering.

I would aim for a clean, desing wise pixel art. I t has that demoscene 'feel' that we all love.

Latest update is definetely the best. Great design.

You need to stretch the AA colours along the edge for more subtle angles of lines, like on the index finger. Otherwise you're just blurring the jaggedyness.

at the moment I think some of the fingers look a bit off...especially the 2nd last finger...it looks quite...dislocated

well it seems like it should be facing more to the right...actually put your hand in a similar position to the image and look at that...you'll probably notice how the thumb should be further back and maybe moved to the left a bit more

Lookin' good, Lemonz. Reminds me of Lawrence's simple style, what with the shapes, and emphasis on light hitting them, showing their definition much more. Guess I don't really get why the tip of his ring finger is blackened, while the tips of his other fingers are getting the same amount of light. But it's still a wip, so you know...what ev'.
