Many unfinished projects.
Spider Jerusalem: various creatures: new styles: a tree: have your say. What is wrong ,what is right, whatever... lots to work on and fix. |

I can't say too much about the first three images, except that they're pretty great, but the fourth is very interesting. I get a nice demoscene vibe from the metallic elements, but they're all lacking in the linework department--you've got all kinds of noncircular circles and curves that don't work with their vertically-separated twins. The shadows that fall on metallic elements are also a bit pillowy-looking. Overall, though, that piece looks quite promising.
The fifth one, the tree, looks good so far. Again I'm feeling some demoscene influence there. I don't know if you've been looking closely at that stuff or if it's a coincidence, but I like it. The only real crit I have is that you need to do something with that circular bulb on the bottommost root on the left. Maybe you could give it a knothole?

You've improved so much with your pixel technical skills! I'm really liking these. As said before, I think where your stuff is lacking is the structure themselves. Anatomy issues, and general flow of a piece. Its probably a lot easier to learn these things traditionally first, then apply to pixelart later.

MoD: thanx dude. I don't think there's any direct influence from demoscene stuff but who knows.
Indigo: thanks. I certainly feel I've learned alot since joining up here 4 years ago. A lot of influence was from artists like you especially. I've always struggled with anatomy and find it a thorn in my side. I'm working on it offline with some helpful aides such as manikins, anatomy guides, etc. It's a long process to develop those skills but I'm certain they'll get there sooner than later. I think my main problem is that I never think out what I'm going to draw sometimes. I tend to "chisel" away at an image until I get what I like - which is easily seen from the third image. I worry too much about the end result that I miss out on structure and so on. Again, it'll take some practice. |
