![]() Topic: Smileys no worky?Posted: 14 August 2005 at 3:21am |

Ugh, I've had this problem for quite a while now... The smileys here on
PixelJoint (both the forum and main site) don't seem to work for me
anymore.
I can see the smileys in the list, but when I click on one of them I just get that image you get when the image doesn't exist on the server (like IE has that red X). Would anyone know what I can do to fix this? I tried clearing Firefox's buffer, but that doesn't seem to help. I guess I can just reinstall Firefox but then I'll lose my cookies, bookmarks etc. (although I can probably make a backup of those)... |

Try doing a hard refresh (hold shift then hit refresh), then click on a
smiley, and if it still shows up as a red X, right click on the one
inside of the reply box and select "View Image." In theory you
should see the smilie then. Do a hard refresh while you are
viewing it, then try to select the smilie again.
If that doesn't work, or when you "View Image" you still get an error, then copy the URL for it and paste it here and we'll see it it even matches. This is one of those bugs in FF that are being searched for... Hope this helps. As for re-installing Firefox, you can just amke a backup of your profile and keep everything, including cookies. To do that (If you are using Windows) got to C:\Documents And Settings\Whatever-user-you-are\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ In there you should have some folders with some random numbers/letters, just copy all the folders and place them somewhere safe, like your desktop, then reinstall. Also be sure to try disabling any extensions you have running and seeing if one of them are conflicting with the java scripts used for the smilies, I know GreaseMonkey has done this on several occasions. Good luck ![]() |

I tried a hard refresh before but that didn't work... and strangely enough nothing seems to happen when I try to use View Image. Hm, it doesn't seem to show an URL for the broken smileys (that must be the reason View Image didn't work). When I right click the smiley and click Properties, I only see the image width, height, size and Alt text (the text that appears when you hold your cursor over it)... Also, I found out that no image at all seems to work in this box... I tried an image hosted on my own website and it didn't show up, just like the smileys. But pasting the URL of that image into the address bar does make it show (same goes for the smileys). Strangely enough smileys do seem to work if I quote them from a previous posted message. Nope, I'm not using any extensions, so that can't cause the problem :P Originally posted by Ensellitis As for re-installing Firefox, you can just amke a backup of your profile and keep everything, including cookies. Ahh, thanks for that. Then I'll just reinstall Firefox, since I won't lose anything anyway. Thanks for the help! (got this smiley by quoting you ;)EDIT: Darn, seems like reinstalling Firefox didn't work :( I'll take a look on the Firefox forums as well to see if I can find more people with this problem... and hopefully also a way to fix it. Sorry for the double post, but: it's fixed already
(<- see?)Posted a message on the Firefox support forums, and I got a reply quickly... Turned out I accidentally unchecked some Javascript option once, one that was apparantly needed for posting images on this forum. Whee! ![]() |
