![]() Topic: Flash based Pixel editorPosted: 04 December 2008 at 12:10pm |

I'm wondering if anyone here would be interested in using a web-based pixel editor built in Flash.
I'm a Flash Developer by trade and I'm thinking of creating one targeted specifically at Pixel artists. This won't be my first graphics app built in Flash. I have an experimental site at cellpaint.com which can give you an idea of what is possible. Flash 10 now has the ability to save directly to a user's machine so could enable users to open and save bitmap images directly from their browser. There is potential to add social aspects to the application but one thing at a time ![]() I guess I'm just wondering if anyone would think they might use it or have any suggestion on features that would make a pixel artist's life easier. |

All I would still need on pixel tools, is a good pixel program that can be used by 2 (or more) artists at the same time, so you could draw something together.
Very important for pixel art programs is the functionality of the right mouse button, which is impossible to use in flash right? Oh, and make sure you are able to close windows, also when your monitor is not huge (like mine) |

It's possible to customize the right click menu which appears in browser based Flash. I'm not 100% sure what kind of functionality can be added though. There's always the potential for the app to be ported to AIR which would add even more functionality.
I like the idea of multiple artists being able to work on the same picture. I building a windowing framework now which will allow windows to be dragged around and resized. Since the app will be specific to pixel art the default view will have a canvas in one window and a separate actual-size view of the composited image. I'm thinking of making tools to quickly create 'pixel primitives' like isometric planes and boxes. |
