![]() Topic: Cat Animations (WIP)Posted: 05 January 2009 at 1:23am |

Putting this together for a friend's platformer project, and I was wondering if anything about it looks awkward in any way, specifically with the front legs (I've redone them so many times that I'm probably missing something obvious with them, haha). Also, if anyone would be able to make a sprite of the cat just standing still, it would be greatly appreciated. I've been trying and I don't know why I can't do it without making it look awkward. @_@;
Thanks in advance for comments and criticism! :D ![]() |

Very smooth animation.
Though I only see one back leg. @.@ |

It doesn't look like there is an impact frame for the front legs. The cat is landing on his front legs, and pulling his back legs through the air. In your animation it doesn't look like the front legs really hit the ground.

When they're running at full speed they kick the ground with their back legs, which is why it only looks like one leg. If I was making a more detailed sprite it would be a bit more obvious. XD
And there are impact frames for both legs, but now that I look at it one leg's only on the ground for two frames and the other for four, so I'll add a bit more to that and hopefully it'll make things better. EDIT: changed to -> ![]() Made it a bit more obvious that the legs were touching the ground, which also required me to lengthen the leap a bit... That fix things up a bit? :o Edited by Bundt - 05 January 2009 at 7:37pm |

I have made an edit earlier, but I was not able to post them for you until now ;)
I think the cats walk should be faster, (I hope the browser will show its speed right) ![]() About the standing image, it is indeed very hard to create one I noticed. so I just took one of your cat poses, and animated that ;) ![]() |

In our little game engine right we actually have the animation moving about at the rate you have it going :)
And I like what you did with the head in the standing animation you made, but the problem is that since this is for a platformer done viewed from the side without any depth besides foreground and background, all of the feet need to be at the same pixel height so that it stands on the ground properly... I'm gonna take another stab at it after school today, hopefully I can put something together. :) EDIT: ![]() Howzat? In order to make the cat have a nice arch in his back like cats always have, I made it crouch a bit. I think I'm happy with this one pretty much, so I'll only be making minor changes to this sprite now if it has to be changed :) I'm gonna start working on the other jumping/walljumping/falling sprites now :D Edited by Bundt - 10 January 2009 at 2:31pm |
