![]() Topic: HELP! Scanned Artwork to PixelPosted: 12 February 2009 at 6:32pm |
|
Hi everyone!! I need some help. I'm trying to scan MY original artwork and then "pixelize" it using graphics gale. I've taken the image and set it as the underlying layer, but I can't get the next layer to go down in res size.
What do I do? I want to see the high resolution image (scanned art) underneath the zoomed resolution image (pixel art). (these are not for submitting as I know tracing is frowned upon, but i'm making large sized monsters for a game and need to speed up the process. my avatar is done in mspaint from scratch) Thank you! |

tracing other's works without permision is what is not allowed. your own works are made by you so there is nothing wrong in such thing.

I do not believe it is possible what you want to achieve MFlanga.
As met says, its also allowed to trace your own sketched. Maybe even encouraged. In graphicsgale, I suggest you resize your lineart to the size you want your pixel art to be. Than you add a layer on top and start tracing. But in graphicsgale you can have multiple images opened at a time, so open the original hi-res sketch as well, and use it as referrence! |

Can't be done in graphicsgale, plain and simple. You need a program with layers.
I'd personally mess with it in photoshop, then draw a simple outline over it with photoshop's pencil tool before dragging it into a real pixel program. |

Thank you all for your kind support. I don't currently have access to photoshop, but what I'm going to try next is applying a transparency program to windows (glass 2k) which claims it can make everything transparent. This way I can have the both images open in GG, the original image zoomed out underneath the pixel canvas zoomed in, all while being perfectly aligned.
I will let you know if this works, as it will be quite handy for me!! |

Note that your drawing will quickly cover the lines you trace anyway. If you set some transparency to the upper layer it will work, but then what you'll see is a mix of both layer, it will not faithfully reflect the pixel layer alone.
In short, the bottom layer will help you with positions and proportions, but after that you'll need the reference on the side of your drawing, not under. |

Oh yeah, I definitely know what you're saying, but i'm simply looking for the proportions and outer line art. Having that already to trace will make things much easier.
The glass2k combo worked, by the way. You have to use a seperate program to view the other image, and i've set the transparency to 50% here in my example. In this, I might need to make my canvas a bit bigger... All of my concept art is line and pen though, so this should help! ![]() |
