I submitted a small piece of my work today, and later got a PM stating that "your submission does not meet our quality standards or the art needs revision for some miscellaneous reason".

I looked back over the rules to see what I might have done wrong. Here is my submission:

Only submit your own work. The above art is my own work. I made it about a year ago.

No work in progress. We're not too strict on this one... just don't throw up junk you spent a couple of minutes on or a half finished piece. That work is not intended to be a WIP. Every piece of art can always be improved, but I technically finished that piece.

No pornography. I don't even have to elaborate on that one. It's flat out not pornography.

Please make sure backgrounds are transparent or serve a purpose -- don't just post a white background unless it fits. If you need help making a background transparent please refer to the FAQ. Be careful with PNG transparency! The background is transparent. It was formerly white, but after reading this rule, I made it transparent.

Give Credit where credit is due. If you use someone else's lineart or are inspired by someone elses work, remember to link back to them. It's all my work. I promise. :)

Any art you post should be PIXEL ART! Pixel art implies that each pixel is placed by hand (no filters, paintbrushes, gradient fills, etc). I did not use any other tools except the pencil tool and eyedropper tool.

If you use a detail image the small image should match. The above work is so small, I did not even use a detail image.

Redundancies can really clog the gallery. Rather than submitting multiple pieces with color changes or minor detail changes submit one piece that showcases the differences. This is the first time I've ever submitted this piece of work (moreover, it's the first piece of work I've ever submitted).

Pixel art for projects should fit the exact specifications of the project. This could mean that a piece must have specific dimensions, colors, transparency (careful with PNG files), alignment, etc. The work is not part of a project.

Any ideas on why it might've been rejected?

Thanks,
Blake

That was the reason why it was rejected.

It was sent back because the quality wasn't good enough for the gallery. It sucks to have something sent back, I know.

Try again (make something else), or plead your case to include this one. But either way, good luck. Don't get discouraged, these things happen to the worse of us. Keep on truckin'.

I did not send this back myself but can see why some Mod felt it was maybe too simply drawn. Sometimes its a 'whose the Mod on Patrol'. Plead your case if you'd like. I think I would have approved it if say this is your first ever pixelart. Or if it belongs as part of a bigger project. I will say sometimes members by not explaining themselves in the description harm their own piece in the process.
Maybe the Mod who sent it back will explain the why to you here on in a PM. I will not override another Mod decision so I will accept its rejection. FYI, your other piece that is a preview of the word 'preview' will not be added because its just pointless. It is pixelart, it is OK pixelled but as a gallery piece is just not happening. I inspected both your pieces and found some level of skill. Your little guy here actually has definition and some skill is shown. Color choices and lighting are actually acceptable to me. Maybe make someting a little more complex or even interesting???.

Thank you both for the helpful replies. I understand why either piece may be unacceptable, and I do suppose the PREVIEW piece is pointless to have in the PJ gallery. I will not bother to go further with the pixel art man, as far as getting him in the gallery, as it is not a big deal to me if he is not in the gallery.

Thank you again. I will try to work on something a little bit elaborate next time. :-D
