    Posted: 21 June 2009 at 7:49pm
Hello, my development team and I are currently creating a shareware game, and we need 1 more pixel artist in order to complete the game.

This position will mainly consist of background and GUI design- building interiors and exteriors, for the most part, are needed, as the game takes place in an open-world city in which all buildings can be entered. In addition to buildings, the menu buttons, various logos, some 640 X 480 Backgrounds, small tilesets, and a custom font are all that is required of you.

Our development team is currently composed of 8 members- programmer/designer (me), a main spriter, a character spriter, a composer/musician, a sound designer, and 3 voice actors. The project we are working on is an open world action-adventure game, with environmental puzzles, a complex combat system, a comprehensive platforming engine, tons of set pieces, a completely voice-acted script, and much more.

Here's some samples of the graphics if you would like to get a feel for the art style (note: animation and general skill don't have to be quite this good; the art style has to fit in, though):

This position will pay roughly 13% of the game's total profits when it is completed (this is not payment on a per-sprite basis). If you are interested, please send me a PM with a sample of your work.

There's too much info. Basicaly what an artist must know:

- platform (and example dimensions of sprites)

- view (side/top-down/isometric/etc...)

- preferred style (similar to...)

- theme (space/jungle/fantasy/...)

- deadline

- how much he will get for each sprite.

Artist will consider delving into details only after he knows these.

That's weird, I thought I followed it pretty well...company info, extemporaneous...job info, check...salary info, check...email address, check... company website, under construction...previous projects-aha, you got me, although I didn't realize that was such a dealbreaker, so it's edited in now.

This is UNPAID check. Chances are you'll never release the game and have profit, not saying that's what going to happen but you have to say its unpaid until you actually get revenue.

Wait a second there- if I do that, no decent spriter will ever look in this topic, and some spriters are happy with this form of payment, proved by the fact that I already have one that has agreed to it. It's also a lie- this job will pay, it's as simple as that, so telling me to change the way everyone views it to unpaid just because you feel that you wasted 2 seconds by looking in here or that you don't like the payment form isn't fair to me or to anyone that's interested. Beyond that, there's a 100% chance that this game will be completed: I've never started a project that I haven't finished, this is my 8th game, I've never cared as much for one of my creations, it's already got months upon months of work piled on it, and it's been planned and organized to the nth degree. If you and dirteater could stop bullying this topic over non-existent issues, I'd appreciate it.

hey calm down, no one said you cant complete it, you may even become very successful, and there is no problem to look for help. I just wanted to say that usually people that look into paid expect upfront payment, and revenue sharing is more of unpaid, in your case I would put [compensated] and explain you cant pay right away.

That's all, in any case I wish you good luck.

hey calm down,
I don't feel angry so much as a little pestered, so I can't be too much calmer.

no one said you cant complete it
Funny, I thought that...
Chances are you'll never release the game and have profit
Oh, weird...

That's why it's explained in the topic. I would imagine that anyone serious would read it, so it seems quite superfluous.

Work on speculation (% of profit) is considered [UNPAID].  If you scroll through the boards there's plenty of precedent for this, and the same rules exist on the Pixelation forums.  There's no guarantee given as to the artist's compensation for their time invested.  If you're asking someone to take the all of the risk with you in finishing the game and just hoping it sells a decent amount, that's unpaid.

If you're serious, and have confidence in your project, offer $ up front.  You'll attract higher caliber artists, make your game look better, and help it to sell more.  Even a small retainer fee with a % on the backend is more enticing that a basic % royalty deal.

Also, having a dedicated page for your game or company with a direct email looks a hell of a lot more professional than a @hotmail/yahoo/gmail/etc email contact...

It just seems even more misleading than [PAID], although you have a point. Isn't there a compromise somewhere in here? [Commissioned] or something?

I don't have money to spend, that's kind of why I'm selling the game...

Working on a website, and I didn't realize people cared about the email contact, so it seemed a bit more convenient for me.

I thought this was my post for a second, it's such a spot-on imitation. Great job.

I was just looking at other topics, and I have no clue why you all have chosen to pick on this one so much. I'm not going to name them, but 2 have no information on payment at all, one has about 2 sentences, one consists of about 40 words, and no one is complaining...

Nobody is picking on you, it's just that we have noticed you keep changing your first post in order to attract more people. We are just saying there's nothing wrong with the info its just that people coming in are expecting upfront payment.

Wow, haven't thought that it will turn into such a debate. Hope it generated some additional attention, though, and wasn't for worse.

Anyway, initial message is for a long time corrected and clear, so let's just wait for pixels of those who interested.

Hey RobinHood, how about you stop stirring the pot? There is absolutely no need to post absolutely pointless information in a thread that's been dead for 7 days.

Why this kind of posting is allowed is beyond me. This section isn't for people to waltz in and go "LOL like I'd ever work for you!" These people are actually looking for help and these kinds of posts simply drive away potential customers.
