![]() It's supposed to be grass. xD (Btw, my first time posting like this. All c/c is quite appreciated...I just don't want to be murdered...yet). Is it convincing? Do I need to fix the colors? I can see the lines where I put the tiles together...how do I stop that? Dx And I apologize in advance if there's a tutorial on that; I couldn't find any. Oh...hopefully I'll progress enough to turn this into "scene." Grass surrounding stone tiles surrounding a pool...eeps. Edited by marova - 01 August 2009 at 4:20pm |

I'm a pixel art n00b, but I think I might be able to help you out a little bit. If you look at a lot of iso tiles, you'll notice that sometimes they have stuff coming out of the top. Don't be dogmatic about sticking inside the iso square. If you'd drawing grass, have some blades coming up over the top edge of it. This will look cool along the edges and also get rid of your green lines where they tile together.
Also, you might want to desaturate your dark color slightly and make it just a little bit more blue. Colors are pretty good, though, IMO. :) |

Update - added more blue to the green, made the grass come up over the edges, and retiled it.

What I think he meant was to give it the impression that the edge of say, the top-right side would have it's blades grow into the bottom-left side. If, you don't get what I mean, check out this diagram using your box:
Say if the red line starts at the top-right side, it appears to wrap around to the bottom left side, have your grass have that sort of effect so theres no blank spots in your iso lawn ![]() Edited by altagu - 14 July 2009 at 10:43pm |

Yes, you have all of your bright pixels around the edge. You're literally highlighting the edges of the tile. Your pattern has to be roughly uniform all over or it will never tile convincingly.

I think I get what you are saying...pixel the edges so that when the tile gets repeated, it's like the edges that connect are growing into each other...?
Here're my attempts based on that interpretation: ![]() 1. Completely repixeled the tile. 2. Since 1 looked sorta empty in the middle I filled in the middle with some more blades. But, the highlights make a line... 3. So I got rid of some of the highlight on the edges and tried to keep it from being too close to the edge while also trying to make them look more natural...not sure if it worked Dx Edited by marova - 15 July 2009 at 1:19am |

Keep going...I can still see the tiles. Remove some of the highlights from the front half of the tile.

UPDATE~ Here I've made a grid to help me tile since I really didn't feel like I was doing it right. I first looked around the web for examples (googled it), then outlined one of my tiles and made the grid from said outline. This is the grid. Should I even be worrying about this? The brown lines around the border are causing the same "line effect" that was present in the grass!!!
I can't remember the trick off the top of my head, but I read somewhere about cutting the tile in half, and taking the top half and placing it next to the bottom half, to see how the lines will show. (effectively the same as placing two tiles next to each other -_-) Creating that portion of the pixel, then chop it back to the way it's supposed to be, and finish the middle. I'm sure one of the experts here know what I'm talking about, and can explain it better. |

I can still rather easily distinguish the lines. D:
What I do for tiles is start with the borders. I make the shapes that will connect on the borders first, finalizing those. That way I know it will tile perfectly. Then I go in and do the inside of the tiles. That part is rather easy, as those won't connect so you can go wild. I think the problem you're having is that you seem to have forgotten the borders overlap. Your tiles may fit perfectly together in thought, but when you put them out those pixels on the edge kill it. D: |

the dirt and the grass dont merge well. also the dirt is very dark while the grass is much lighter. i would make the dirt a little lighter. |

Let him worry about getting the pattern right before he worries about creating edge tiles for the grass.
But I do agree that the dirt/grass colors seem a little uneven. (Though dirt can look a variety of ways...) |
