not bad for a first pixel
I would add 1 brighter color to that hat and you should use much more contrast with the darkest tones of face colors
also add some shading to his moustache and eyebrows
draw him an ear

well its a little better but I can barely see his ear and I think it needs even more contrast dont be afraid to do so it will look better if you try

here is a small edit:

so as you can see I made the bright brown even brighter and removed dithering from the hat and the eyes, darkened the darker blue in his eyes and removed dithering there, and removed the dark color and dithering from his ear to make it more readable.Dithering is a fine technique but dont ever use dithering on smooth objects because dithering makes them look like they have rough surface.
