Helllo buddies.  I'm making some sprites to hone my skills and would really appreciate feedback.  I have found that in my novice attempts at pixel art I have been pushing a canvas size too ambitious for my scope so this is an attempt toward a smaller work area size for a sprite series I'd like to continue with.

Here's the current state of it with a little idle animation.

I'm really happy with the results so far, but some more experienced eyes on this before going too much further with it would be a great help.  Wanted to be sure I wasn't overlooking some glaring problems after staring at it for as long as I have.

I'd like to add more animations to this sprite, such as an attack, walk cycle, and a few other basics.  Primarily it's for fun and learning, but I'd love to get it right, yaknow!

And to answer any 'wtf is this' questions, it's supposed to be my 1-year old Daughter with her dragon-shaped blanket tied around her like a cloak.  I still need to add a pretty important part to the piece, a few pacifiers tied around her neck and diaper region to complete the look.  We call her "High Priestess Wannanoonie" on account of the fact that 'noonie' is the nickname for her pacifier.

If that's your idle animation, you might as well leave it motionless. I'm not saying it's bad in that sense, but I'm saying that it's so subtle, I had to look at it to make sure it was actually animated.

Admittedly, idle animations are tough. They shouldn't be overpowering, but they shouldn't go unnoticed either. What I like to do, rather than showing breathing, is maybe every few seconds, the character makes a little move, like an adjustment to the cape or something of similar nature.

As for the pixel work itself, adding some contrast there would be very useful.

The sprite isn't bad, but I think the stomach moves too much.

Try moving it only 1 pixel from its normal position. Also, try moving the legs and the other arm a little, and make the animation faster.

That should help make it better.

Also, that's a cute story :)

There could be some cape movement, and the stomach moves too much.  Also, when he breathes in, he should get a tad bit taller, and when he exhales, shorter.  Stomach jiggling is fine.  Eye and moth movement are a bit choppy.  Try adding 1 more frame to the blink.  Same goes for the mouth.

Sprite needs more contrast as Phones suggested, and the skin color should be more saturated.
