Hey, welcome to PixelJoint!

I want to start off by saying this character looks like he could be very fun with some simple tips for cleanup.

First off, this is very big, and for someone who is new, it's not recommended to start off so big so early. Try to resize the image to be 100x100 pixels max.

Another big problem I see is the lines, they are very jagged. Jagged means that they are not smooth, this picture should show what I mean.

As for shading, just try to do something. DO NOT pillowshade, just think about the creature in simple shapes (circles, squares, etc) and shade each part how you think a ball or a cube would look shaded.

In any cases, these pictures should help you out too.

Good luck! You have a good start so far, I look forward to seeing your progress.
