So, I’m thinking of doing this animation based on a concept I had almost a week ago. It’s about this cyborg girl who gets fatter in increments when a bar fills up and also gets upgrades in gun sizes when she defeats enemies. The “weight ammo” is then stored and used to defeat more enemies that are sometimes much stronger. She uses all her ammo and gets skinny again. Erina also gets and loses different abilities according to her size. (She can't jump when shes pretty big.)

How does she move being so huge? Her fat is a soft synthetic material and therefore light weight and durable as well as the parts underneath the outer layer. So, she weighs less than a normal cyborg would, which gives her the freedom to jiggle around and keep moving.

This is the sprite I’ve been working on which would be her max weight. Any larger and its just being ridiculous right? Right?

It's certainly original.

thats the final stage? i think she could get muuuuch fatter...
about the art itself i think ur palette needs refinement. u have too much colors ( the palette u put down even hasnt got all the colors used in it...) ur ramps are too linear (use hues shifting, that makes it much more interesting to look at)... her stance looks static, and could need more expression, like the face aswell

This is my first time doing pixel art so thank you for the advice. I'll try what you said and get back to it. And much fatter? I can try making her bigger in some parts I suppose. I was originally going to have her be 5 sizes and you have to fill up a gauge with energy to get to each size. It would make sense to have her walk slower with more fire power too right?

Better? Tried to make the pose dynamic n stuff.

EDIT: And yeah its not shaded properly yet either.

She may be really fat, but she still has anatomy.

Remember, obese people have regular skeletons and muscles. Be sure to take that into account.

Also, try looking at some references. Here's a few for inspiration.

Good luck :)

Thanks for the pics Buddy90, but I'm kind of confused as to what you think I should approach this like. Do I make her look more like a human fat girl? I guess it doesn't matter that she’s a cyborg if the synthetic flesh still behaves the same way. I don’t want the body mass to sag too much, so to keep it looking kind of cartoony and not as realistic as possible. Maybe you could do a paint-over because I’m a little lost on where to start here. Would making the sprite taller help any?

Totally redid the sprite but kept the colors and made the black just a darker grey. Maybe I need to make the eyes smaller?

i kinda like ur design but there still are several flaws to it... main problem is anatomy, her hips seem very flat, breasts look deformed and asymetric, pose is a bit off and looks unstable.... another thing is size, i think if ur rly wanting to make this in pixelart u should make her much smaller like 32x64px for instance, that way itll also be a easier to start animating. also imagine how much work it will be to make backgrounds, tiles etc. on such a large scale!! pixelart kinda is about making small stuff and its much more fun placing every pixel with most efficiancy...

heres another edit (~32x64px)

Advice like yours is exactly why I'm here. Thanks for the insight. I can see what you mean about the anatomy too.

Minor pose update. What was I thinking just having her stand there like that? Wait, did I leave out her butt?

Working on the idle animation. Please point out every flaw you can think of! Less than 5 I hope...

You're ignoring all the references Buddy90 posted. She doesn't look fat; she looks like she swallowed a beach ball.

[Edit]

Little crappy edit to onek's edit to show you where you could go:

My attempt at 8x8:

The problem with lowest resolutions is that you have to sacrifice details 'cause 'ere bscly №t nuf pxs 4 m!
