Very very cool topic, I did a digital painting for a challenge with the same title.  Not pixel work but can be viewed at the following link if anyone wants to take a peek .  The larger view looks better than the thumb :P

There should be some cool stuff to vote on next week.  Good luck everyone!

Starting a western scene :
Ladies and Gentlemen, WHY DID SHERIFF-CHICKEN CROSS THE ROAD :

Manjaman that's pretty sweet, reminds me of the Chicken treat chook though. I wonder if that advert for West Coast Fried Chicken was your reference?

Anyway;

That's my WIP so far, still trying to workout what exactly I should have the great warrior rooster facing across the road. Still it was better than the first design I started going with.

PS both my monitor and my eyes are screwy can anybody see a rock like structure at his feet? Need to make sure it's at least semi-readable.

One of the many ideas, but this one looked better and made more sense:

Here's a start:

Yes, that is a strip of chicken breast running from a frying pan. Sadly, I'm not too experienced, so I couldn't bring out all that I wanted to. Obviously, the scenery isn't done, it's just outlines. My main focus today was the characters, and I felt like working on the road too. Currently at 21 colors. Now time to go do homework.

C&C appreciated, of course.

Ultimaodin : no idea of what you'r talking about  I live in France, this ad may not exist here.
IMO the rock isn't readable for the moment.

edit : Does someone know why the underline function is blocked when i post here ?

You've heard of the Red Light District from seedy tales of towns gone astray.  But have you ever been to the side of the coop that the Egg White District nests in?

Had 5 minutes left at work and didn't want to start something I'd have to stop in the middle of so I did this instead :P

Maybe the chicken's a terrorist...

still working on it.

Update:

The biggest criticism I've been getting is that the chicken strip doesn't look like chicken. And thus, it is replaced with roast chicken, which in my opinion is much more recognizable. I need to work on those trees some more. But first, sidewalk detail.

can someone please tell me how many colors or in this picture. im using ms paint and i lost track of the colors.

114. Use the free version of graphics gale it's a lot nicer than paint. Also there's so many colors because i think those cloud and bush and tiles are ripped from the game.  Correct me if im wrong.

Chose the most obvious reason:

TO FIGHT IN A POST-APOCALYPTIC WAR!

(probably against some Dinosaur-Nazis)

Well, the rules didn't say the road has to be a tangible road. Do ho ho hooo~

Anyway, C&C would be very much appreciated.

How about adding an actual road?* I thought you were above this kind of subversive/lazy stuff.

*I'll try to remember to spell things out even more explicitly and add wikipedia links to *every* noun next time :P

Lovely rendering though.

wait what oh no no no don't make me feel all guilty now damnit

So here's the complete idea, now with 100 % more actual physical road. At least the clouds on the left side will be redone (it's just copypasta & recolour from right), plus the tail part needs adjustment.

Cheers

This could have been alot better but unfortunately I have no time left (damn those weekends!). I'll submit it anyway although it won't make it, just to have something new in the gallery.

Yeah.

... I have a question. Is that understandible ?

I dont know how to do with the shadows, the background... But I have colors left...Because of the rope, the mouse, the elephant and the road.

Wow, all your works are really cool !

Here's my entry :

Well, in a distant future, police ships will be a little weird, chickens fly with strange saucer-looked devices.
I wake up early today to start it, it was a funny exercise. I used 31 colors and a hundred frames.
I have seen more funny jokes about the "why the [...]", I don't expect too much about mine, after all, it was funny.
