Watch out, they're HUGE portraits! I just want some feedback on any mistakes that may be apparent in the facial structures, really. The cloaks might also present issues... I apologize for the messiness of the hair on the guy on the far right.
Without masks...

With masks...

I started these because I'm wary to continue on the other http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=10580 - WIP I posted here. If anyone would please take a look... I've completely overhauled the sprite. Any comments and critiques are much appreciated on either piece. <3

These guys are far too young and clean-looking to mean shaman. Have a http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/22139.htm - look at http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/12094.htm - those .

Just because they are young looking, doesn't mean they can't be a shaman. Maybe they age slower than most people? Maybe they are quite old, but they just look young. Or maybe he just wants them to look like that.
I think they look awesome, I really like the hair and the faces. And the clothes on the 2 on the right are well designed. I also like the masks, those look pretty awesome.

Stitchy makes everything into androgynous male elves. That includes shamans.

Hey, that's not fair, Snader! Elves actually number in the minority of my characters; most of them are humans. Very, very pretty humans.
To explain why I use the word shaman...
These three are characters from a two-part story my best friend and I have been concocting for a few years now. It takes place in a sort of alternate universe Earth in the 13th century. Christianity is not as severe, and there are people adept with magic, exorcism, etc. To keep it short, there's a large order that seeks out these people and recruits them, and usually these people become "shaman." I didn't want to use a word like "mage," because they often have skills that go beyond LET'S BLOW IT UP magic. Often, they specialize in medicinal and magical healing, exorcism, divination, you name it. They're generally pretty clean because many of them are filthy
stinking rich, because they're not Jesus and don't pass out miracles
for free. There are shamans of all ages, including old ones. There is one older one in particular, the current shaman leader, who is in her sixties. I only included these three because they are leading characters in the story, though I might try to do as many as I can.
Thanks for the compliment, HereTic. Tinnunculus (far left,) is the poorest of the three, so his clothes are not quite as nice as Tyto (middle,) and Sagittarius (far right.) The masks are worn by all shaman in the order to hide their identities (if they need to, they can always don plain clothes and go about without the mask for protection,) and are all based off of birds. From left to right, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Kestrel - Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barn_Owl - Common Barn Owl (Tyto alba alba) , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secretarybird - Secretarybird (Sagittarius serpentarius) . All shaman have taken names that consist of a first name that is usually part of their bird's scientific name, and a last name that reflects their country of origin.
Oh, and I'm a girl. :> Thus the pretty men. I sincerely apologize.

Ok then, forget about youth. My actual feeling was more something like bland. They'd look ok as princes or pages, that kind of idle people. Shamans work, this should show somehow. Also they look very similar, even identical for the 2 at left.
About the story: sounds interesting, but in this case: - the word shaman itself is out, was introduced around the 16th century ( http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chamanisme#.C3.89tymologie - link to French Wikip , more detailed in this article than English); - shouldn't they be not-all-whites?
OT: for some reason I was reminded of Ursula Le Guin's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthsea - Earthsea , used to be my #1 book for a loooong while. Somebody please pixel Ged.

These are pretty cool!
The only thing I can say is that you might want to either raise the nose or lower the eyes on the youngest one: I know your style calls for elongated nose bridges, but his seems a little to long. I would go with lowering the eyes first just a tad seeing as the nose/mouth seem to be already in good position with the jawline, then maybe move the nose up slightly if that doesnt work.
Please finish these, they look great!

Hm, well, then I wont continue and keep my dumb ideas to myself. ;) I'm just a bad animu artist who can only draw clones, after all, and PJ obviously doesn't need any more like me.
The scientific names for birds didn't exist back then either, but it's not meant to be completely historically accurate at all. We just took the time period to give a sense of some things such as technological advancement and what not. It's alternative universe type stuff, as I said.
These three are all European, I admit. Norwegian, Spanish/Romanian, and Greek respectively. The older lady shaman I mentioned originates from Sri Lanka, and a number in the story are from Asia, too.
I apologize for wasting your time.

Did I say anything wrong? Then I apologize, you certainly don't have to, and in no way do I consider my time wasted. PJ does need you, you have a great gallery, including some of my fav's, btw.
So please go on with this. If you think my crit is useless just ignore it, and if it's too blunt then again I'm sorry. Really. I know I do that sometimes.
