Hi there,
I'm starting to learn how to make pixel art, and have read some great tutorials around the place.
One suggestion I found mentioned that it's good practice for newbies to start off by taking an existing picture, and modifying it to learn some basics.
My question is: If I practice in this way, and if I acknowledge it is for learning purposes, may I post the result somewhere to ask for feedback?
~~
I was admittedly rather enthusiastic, when I signed up to Pixel Joint I tried to edit the default 'no avatar' avatar to practice (a) using a given set of colours, and (b) dithering.
Here's what I did: http://i33.tinypic.com/bey0wx.png
I got in trouble for it not being original work.. is there a way I can ask about techniques by citing images I have practiced on?
I think learning from good works could be very helpful for a beginner like me, but I'm not sure how to discuss doing so.
Thanks for your time :)

you can post to the wip forum for feedback but an edit of someone else's work will not be allowed in the gallery.
