So I started to AA but couldn't help stopping, thinking that something about the AA was wrong. I'm still very new to anti aliasing and would like some opinions/edits if possible.
I realize that it still needs a lot of refining but I wanted to get the AA out of the way first.

The best and easiest way is to have one window at 1X and another at least 8X opened at the same time. If you can't do that then you have to increase/decrease a lot.
Pixel in using the lightest AA color and look at the 1X > if smooth, you did it. If not try longer/shorter stroke > if not smooth add 2nd AA shade > till its smooth > sometimes you need 3 or 4 > after 5 shades you probably have a total mess > clean your lines. Eventually you'll know the 'patterns' and don't have to do that as much.

For sure its better :) but notice you can still see jaggies, so if you want smooth, smooth you gotta do more, including the outside of the lines.
I fiddled with some areas, click to zoom in. Can be improved ;)

Slightly offtopic: Jal, you never cease to amaze me. You're like everywhere on this site at the same time, giving advice to people and helping them improve their pixelart, modding stuff, editing posts and still have time left to pixel for yourself. Seriously, amazing.
Anyway, just had to say that for a sec. I don't really have that much to say about the image... It's pretty cute =3.

I'd have to agree about Jalonso ^^ and thank you.
Also...
I think it's just about ready for upload, yes?

Because Jalonso is a TANK.
That said, I liked it better with the mouth-like-blob at the beginning. I feel it gave the lil'guy more character.

There! You guys were right, it does look better!

Now that I think about it, I want to animate it-- nothing special, just want the gleam in its eyes to shimmer and maybe a blink or two. I think that will accentuate the cute ^^
Does anyone know how to animate? I simply cannot figure out how things work on Graphicsgale and there aren't any tutorials...

Can anyone help me with animation? ... I have no idea how to work with Graphicsgale or use any other program, for that matter, but I am willing to learn.

Cute character!
http://www.iaza.com/xpages/xload.html - iaza.com has all of your animation (and transparency) needs. Just load your image, click "frame animation", put in up to 50 frames, select frame speed and voilà :D
Here's a quick 2 frame thing

EDIT: Here's some other pieces in the gallery, could give ya more complex anim ideas.
and one more from Jad over at Pixelation

I noticed that in your animation, the entire body moves and not just the eyes. Is there any particular reason you did that? If the body weren't moving, would it take away from the animation any more than the moving gives to it? I see how making the entire body move would make the creature more 'alive', if you will, and could even be interpreted as trembling or shivering because the creature is scared, thereby adding more to the cute factor (at least in my opinion), but...
...Well, I pretty much answered my own question, didn't I? The only one I have left is 'why didn't I think of that?' and that too could be answered with 'because we're all here to learn, aren't we?'
What's your take on things?

It's all dependent on what you want to convey :)
My admittedly rushed anim had lots of moving bits because I personally reckon that just having the eyes moving would look a bit odd, static. It's really your call, my flickery AA bits are pretty distracting. If you were to animate more'n the eyes, I'd definitely recommend more than just 2 frames! ;)

I felt that the shimmering wasn't noticeable enough so I made them bigger. Which do you prefer?

Its nice, good job, the blink timing is good too. I hate the AA flickering on the bottom edge. I don't mind it on the top. If the heart grew by 1px then the shimmer is ok, otherwise the shine moving makes no sense, even as an artistic license.

Very nice, love the eyes. Have to agree with the bottom move and heart, looks odd.

Thats great! ^_^
But in a very honest opinion, there is still something odd with the heart and the forehead of the thing seems it could be better, but if I were you I'd wait for other opinions. :)

I think you have done well and learned a lot, you even tried animation. Maybe its time to let it go and call it finished.* One must know when to end.
*You have one tiny 'jag' where the heart's bottom points on the character. AA that :)
