Hi!
My name's zach goldstein, I'm an independent game developer currently
working on creating games for the web. I go by the name Reindeer
Flotilla ( http://www.reindeerflotilla.net/ - http://www.reindeerflotilla.net/ ).
I'm looking for some great artists to work with on a few projects. After
looking around a little bit on this forum, I was thinking that this
would be a good place to put the word out.
Artistically, the projects I'm working on are really very flexible. I
have a basic idea of what I think would work, but I'd love to work with
people who've got a certain style they'd like to explore. I want to
avoid dictating what the art looks like, and really have people coming
to me saying, "ya I think it'd be best if this looked like this". I'm a
developer, and I feel like an artist would know better than anybody
about what is and isn't visually appealing.
In terms of scope, the games are quite limited because they're meant for
the web. That's not to say these are trivial projects though, as
there's a wide variety of art needed. Level design, ui work,
spritesheets, and others are all required to varying degrees. I really
apologize for being so vague, the best I can say right now would be to
take a look at http://www.reindeerflotilla.net/2011/01/18/first-demo-revision/ - http://www.reindeerflotilla.net/2011...demo-revision/ and imagine redesigning every piece of that.
My main way of monetizing these games will be through sponsorships, with
microtransactions also being possible depending on the terms of the
sponsorships. Art/music will receive 50% of any money that comes out of
these projects, while I take the other 50%. Which I think is pretty
fair. Keep in mind that music is probably a much smaller chunk of the
50% than art, since people have a tendency to mute games on the web and
the time investment is smaller.
Right now I can't pay anybody from the get go to be involved, but I'd
like to do a kickstarter campaign as soon as we've got a really polished
demo out. That way there's a little bit of money flowing early to stay
motivated. I know percentages don't really mean anything, so just to
give it some context, I'm really pushing to put out a game that warrants
around $5K in sponsorship money. This is a big goal that we might not
get to, as the game has to be in the top 5% of flash games out there to
make that much. To me, this is doable; but there's no guarantees for
sure.
Currently, I've gotten one prototype for a game done, which is up at http://www.reindeerflotilla.net/2011/01/18/first-demo-revision/ - http://www.reindeerflotilla.net/2011...demo-revision/
. It's basically a tug-o-war game between 2 villages, where the player
is given control of a flying ship to help a specific village. Right now
the demo is extremely rough, and I'm working to improve on it and build
the game out. I've gone through a really great, informal, round of
testing on it and made alot of changes based on that, but it's a
continual process.
Anyways, if you're interested, shoot me an email (zachgold@gmail.com)
and let me know. It would be amazing to see a little bit of past work so
I can get a feel for what type of art you enjoy doing. If you could
also mention how much time you'd be able to commit to the project, that
would be great too.
Cheers,
-zach
