Hey everyone! This is your favourite buddy, PixelBlink, sending some shouts of disapproval. This is mainly to do with the main site... yes, I said it, the MAIN site - PIXELJOINT! Seems like many of the forum goers don't know about the main site and the wonders of icons, etc. We have many new things going on the main site all the time - from tutorials, desktop downloads, etc. Get over there now. (The next topic doesn't really make people want to see the main site but...)

Secondly, the main site is getting bogged down with poor quality. I am sick and tired of people not spending time and effort on the icons they've submitted. White background? Remove it. If you don't know how to do it with the program you have, then ask or figure it out! Posting a piece in the forums here under W.I.P.?? That stands for WORK-IN-PROGRESS ... meaning it's not finished yet. Fine tune your piece before submitting to the main site.

Frankly, I'm tired of it... and my comments on some pieces there do show it.

I supppose you're right, but a warning woulda been nice instead of going on a full-out rampage of angry comments. If I wanted to be picky, I could say that I've never been much impressed by your faces; They don't appeal to me and seem similar and annoying, but I keep that to myself, cause I don't want to insult you.

There are softer and more effective methods of doing this. You could have just put a "Please go here and read it before you post another picture" and then a link to this or a similar post. You could have just put a couple of reasons why you don't like it, other than the fact that it took five minutes. Don't you have the authority to screen which pictures are displayed? And if you don't, I'm sure sedgemonkey does; Contact him.

Basically, not much impressed by your attitude, man. Lay off the newcomers and give them advice, not lay on the anger.

Fair enough dude. I'm just a blunt kind of person I guess and get straight to the point... even when I'm not feeling the need to be polite. If a person obiviously didn't put the time and effort for a piece, I'm not going to put the time and effort into leaving a full critique on their work. I have, however, given some advice to certain submissions to help them improve or change for the better... it's not ALL bad.

And fully lay on the comments on my pieces dude... I don't mind at all.

also have edited my post (albeit not much) to create a softer, more gentler and free of static-cling approach

I think the main reason why noobs submit poor quality work and don't do what the're supposed to, is that they don't know. Maybe some introduction flash thingy is an idea for poeple who first sign up.
I know how you hate it when this kind of stuf happens, but please don't get all mad. You're scaring me.

Too much drama.  Forgive pixelblink... he hasn't had his meds yet.

Let me lay it out in a better manner.  The Pixel Joint gallery (not the forum) will indeed be implementing a few rules in the future to stop some of the frivolous posting cluttering the gallery.  I'm sure we've all seen what a huge clusterf*ck deviantart's pixel art gallery is and I don't want Pixel Joint to be a mess like that.  Here are a few rules that we will be implementing soon:

  • WIP posting will no longer be acceptable.  You can always update your pieces of course, but don't use the gallery to store your WIPs.
  • Backgrounds should either be transparent or a part of the piece (no more lazy white bgs).
  • Dolling is allowed as long as there is some obvious effort made.
  • Pixel art only!  While this is a fairly gray area sometimes we hope people will do their best to keep it honest. If you don't know what pixel art is please refer to the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel_art - wikipedia definition before posting.
  • The last and most important rule of all is to put some friggin' effort into your work. If you are still learning to pixel, spend time in the forum honing your skills. You should be proud of the works you post in the gallery.

Again, these rules are for the Pixel Joint gallery only -- not the forum. The existing gallery will be reorganized in the near future to showcase the higher quality pieces.  Don't worry... no work will be deleted.

I don't want Pixel Joint to turn into another elitist asshole convention, so if any of the admins (including myself) give you a hard time we are just trying to lead you on a path to improve your skills and you can always post your justifications back to us.  You can talk sh*t to us too if we post garbage on the gallery site. Admins are not above the law. We won't take it personally and you shouldn't either.

If any of you ever have any questions or suggestions you can always PM me.

Peace,

sedgemonkey

Haha, thanks, man. I never did have anything against your faces, that was a hypothetical point. And I can see what you mean, but *I forget their name* just posted a bunch of real nice things, so I'm happy .

(Like the bouncy slime and the sushi table)
