This is a pretty cool pixel art program, I think. It has 256 colors to use, and they're organized very well. The selection of browns isn't great, but it's livable. Plus you can make your own colors into the palette, so that makes up for it. Anybody wanting to try out a new program, I recommend. It does have a few annoying bugs in it, FYI.

Many at PJ already use Grafx2...but it's good that you remind those who doesn't yet! :)
The inital palette is simply defined by the skin you are using, you have to restart the program before the palette changes due to a skin-swap though. (I'm the author of the Aurora-skin and its palette)

Well, seeing I've been signed up to this place for about two hours now, I wouldn't know many people already use it. I haven't even really experimented with the program yet even though I've been using it for quite a while now. I should look into it...

Annoying bugs ? Where ?
As one of the developpers of GrafX2, I'll happily try to fix them :)

Hi all...
I'd like to ask about Grafx2, is it possible to make transparent gifs in it? I see there is a button "get/set transparent color" but i cant understand how does it work or is it work at all...

You get this window when you click the long 'layers' button. Check "background", and ensure that the image's transparent color is the one you want.

Im new to Pixel Arts and downloaded Grafx2 after I read about it here ...
I think this Programm is amlost perfect for structured work
with pixel arts.
But there is one thing missing or am I too dumb to find it..
Is there the possibility to activate something like a grid 1px size ? or higher ? If not it would be nice if one of the developers would integrate the function...

It's not evident as it was a late addition: Shift-G to open the grid options (Or it's in FX screen, right-click "Grid") Set X=1 and Y=1, and check "Show".
 Have fun!

And another question - how can i save a work in tall pixels? I save gif, but when i open it in viewer it is distorted and pixels are not tall there... I can, ofcourse, open it in photoshop and double its size on Y axis, but can i just save my work with these tall-pixel proportions somehow?
By the way, as to bugs, in linux version there are crashes when you press text button, and when you open the pallette and try to spread colors in first (left) column - that was in ubuntu.

The Tall size is just a display-mode, you'll have to resize (or paint with actual tall pixels to begin with).
Right-click the bottom-left doublearrow icon for the Transformation menu (or install my Toolbox and run IMAGE/Set Image Size).

When you save a tall-pixel or wide-pixel image in PNG format, Grafx2 stores the pixel ratio. A viewer like XNView recognizes it and displays the image like Grafx2, but Windows's previewer and Firefox ignore the information and display it with 1:1 pixels. For web use, there's no other choice than to resize the image.
By the way, I just noticed there is a place for pixel ratio in GIF format too; I'll need to save it there too. I don't expect viewers to take it into account , but it will be helpful for Grafx2 to "remember" the image's preferred pixel size.
About the bugs, those two must be specific to this build, because these functions work perfectly on all the platforms I can access (including Debian Linux :/ )
edit: About the Text crash, it sounds like Ubuntu bug http://https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grafx2/+bug/700090 - #700090 , which was present up to Grafx2 2.2. It was fixed http://code.google.com/p/grafx2/issues/detail?id=356 - one year ago , but by the time we completed 2.3 and it was included in Ubuntu, it was only fixed in the Ubuntu release "Oneiric Ocelot"

Oh, well, i will resize it then. It has so lovely brutal retro look with tall or wide pixels:)
2DawnBringer - yea, i've installed your toolbox yesterday and am going to get used to it cause there are lots of cool features.
2yrizoud - that might really be bugs of ubuntu build i've had.
Thanks for answers!

Hello guys I think I am in need of your help, recently(very recently) I have joined pixeljoint and again recently I met with grafx2, my problem is that when I choose Aurora skin for it, it looks a little pale to me! Color of the bottoms does not look sharp. How can I fix that (is there anyway for me to fix that without having to manipulate the "skin_Aurora.png" file?)
I took an image from my desktop u can find the images in this post or on the link below:
https://www.deviantart.com/art/This-is-not-an-art-this-is-a-problem-I-have-faced-746863367
As u may have noticed the image "a" looks pale while the image "b" has sharper colors I want to have grafx2 looks like the image "b".

There's a newer version (v1.1) of the Aurora-skin in the ToolBox (/skins). It has higher contrast.

Hello, I already looked in the folder(/skins) there are five .png files and only one of them is "skin_Aurora.png"and it has a pale colors, more interestingly I think there might be a bug or something(or maybe I am wrong) if U take a look at the link :
https://www.deviantart.com/art/This-is-not-an-art-this-is-a-problem-I-have-faced-746863367
U can see "a" image shows the appearance of the grafx2 in Aurora skin and image "b" shows when I select another skin from skin menu every thing gets sharper and this happenes only when the user had already skinned grafx2 with Aurora skin. I am using grafx2 2.5.1946 windows edition.
