Hello everyone, I wanted to ask if there is any good pixel art software (freeware) in which I could save images as png as well as animate.

Give Tile Studio a chance. It's free and it's incredibly easy to use. I've been using it for years.

Grafx2 is very beginner friendly. Once you get better, if you feel like giving a new program a try, go to GIMP, where there are more features you can use to easily create your own color palettes and such. They're both free. Just make sure to only use the pencil tool in GIMP while pixeling if you're making pixel art.

Freeware pixelling programs for the PC are very numerous, but animation
programs are much more rare. As a first animation program I'd recommend something like http://www.flat2d.com/easytoon/telechargement.aspx - Easytoon (pick the "International" version if you don't speak French) It's limited to black and white, but onion skinning only really works well in black and white anyway. And it can save animated GIF and export bitmap frames, so it can be a good way to get an animation right before colorizing it with other tools.
