Does anyone know any good tutorials or websites to help with choosing color palettes or color theory-type things, or even just some good advice? I feel like that is one of my largest weaknesses and I am often not satisfied with the colors I end up using.

I use GraphicsGale, and I usually end up picking a color from their default palette and then slide the bar darker or lighter as needed to AA; blah, blah, blah. But I keep seeing really fascinating palettes by others in the gallery (Mrmo Tarius, a3um, DawnBringer, here's lookin' at you), and I'm hoping it's not just skill and instinct, but something I can learn.

So if anyone has any tips I would be super grateful!

color theory is just something you have to pick up. know the http://www.tigercolor.com/color-lab/color-theory/images/color-wheel-300.gif - color wheel and how to form color harmonies (triadic, split-complimentary, etc).

http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=10695 - this thread may be helpful . and there's the Pixel Art Tutorial's http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299&PID=139392#139392 - section on palettes , but it's less for general color theory and more about pixelart-specific applications.

color theory is a big area though, can only answer the question generally at this point. certainly much of color-selection is intuitive, but it can be learned, there is rhyme and reason to it.

Thank you. I do know it is a very broad question, so thanks for the advice. Too bad my junior college doesn't offer a class. :/

Also those links are great!! Very, very helpful.
