by "content" of the image do you mean concept? can we completely remake the picture using the same ideas, or do the pixels have the stay in the same place but change in colour?

Posted By: jeremy
Date Posted: 09 January 2012 at 2:10am
the concept. Recolouring an image wouldn't be much of a challenge.

Slightly off topic, but what program to you use to draw and pixel in?

I like the idea, but I'm not gonna enter tho. I'd take a shot in this one just for fun later, maybe.

One can't own ideas.
If someonme else does something similar, you'll rank depending on how good your piece is, regardless.

This is a perfect example of how it should be done. However, yes, the main image does have the giant lizard watching the smaller ones so it'll be ideal to add them as it's one of the main concepts of that piece.

Hot French blood!

@a3um you may or may not have fixed it already but his right leg seems much smaller than the left.

Let's not get distracted from our shared love of pixels and the challenge at hand. Any disputes can be addressed via PM. I am trimming the thread accordingly. Keep up the good pixeling, guys and gals!

@a3um: impressive!
@big brother: right and thank you! :)

Concerning the vase critter, is it ok if one is not exactly similar in shape but has the same idea of a vase creature?

Absolutely fine, just keep the concept of it being a creature based on a vase and you have complete freedom with its design. ;)

I have one question. Are we allowed to use the palette of someone else if we give credit or we should pick the colours ourselves aswell? (*peers at http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=13422 - this topic in particular*)

Daaaw are you not going with the other one?  I like the one with the sword's pose much much better (But then again-- who makes the sword for a giant lizard god anyway?).  Still, looking goooooood!!!

^ Volcano creature? I haven't done any rocks before so this'll be fun.  (Weird not-pixelly circles you're seeing are a result of be erasing with the Flash eraser and not the pixel tool one)

I've done a few changes, but still improving - and still need your help!

Posted By: Trick17
Date Posted: 10 January 2012 at 6:56pm
Haha, funny idea
I think the biggest problem is the rendering. I would not suggest to use dither for it, like you did. Does't makes sence at a plain surface to me. And it doesn't gives anough depth to the ladyshark. I addition, the white backlight is too thin and gives ugly banding to the piece.
Try to use bigger areas to shade, especially for the shadow, e. g. the back should be dark.

Posted By: mdog95
Date Posted: 10 January 2012 at 7:45pm
Keep in mind the original did have a LOT of dithering, Super17.

Posted By: Trick17
Date Posted: 10 January 2012 at 8:03pm
Sure, but I assumed that she didn't want to copy the style.

Posted By: AG182
Date Posted: 10 January 2012 at 11:45pm
Well, I don't want it to be overloaded, neither do I want her to be flat, as she seems to me now. I prefer dithering as far as it seem to give more, heh, texture, but, well, I usually try to keep it moderate, you know. But I'll try to make some changes following your advice.
As for the backlight, well, I believe this is how it supposed to be IRL, when the light source is right behind you - thin and bright.

Does it get any better?

personally I feel like you need to take the plunge and fill in that back with a darker color.  and if ya dont like it try something else.  The dithering's a tad to light still.   But that's just my assumption-- I haven't even seen the BG yet so it might just be suitable.  I think it'd be an even better idea to finish up yer background and judge yourself how the lighting on the shark should look/weigh it.

Loosely based on: http://www.usefilm.com/images/7/6/2/762/195306-medium.jpg

How can I improve this/take this forward?

Posted By: baah
Date Posted: 11 January 2012 at 7:46am
@Graindolium: tes images sont dans le sujet (requin, premier bonhomme), donc ok pour être ici, au contraire. Assure toi par contre que tes critiques soient constructives...
@AG182: it's THE cutie...
@inglOrius: one point for you!
The fall of a god, the little men are crying? Or the fall of an enemy and they are festing?

Posted By: AG182
Date Posted: 11 January 2012 at 9:28am
How about that?

NOTE: I'm going to make the background transparent.

Posted By: Denmen707
Date Posted: 11 January 2012 at 12:19pm
It's a bit cluttered, might want to cut back on the dithering a bit.

Posted By: AG182
Date Posted: 11 January 2012 at 12:35pm
Won't it be too much dithering? I mean, there's already a lot.

Try to make a chameleon shark. :P

Posted By: takikazama
Date Posted: 12 January 2012 at 6:56am
I'm trying to do something aswell. The idea is that the lizard sceen is actually just a real chameleon in a terrarium. Although, I might not be able to finish it in time so I think I'll drop the whole terrarium project and just concentrate on the "main character".
I think I have to lower the saturation of my colors. But if you have any idea/critic regarding the shading, it's really welcome as I usually have no idea how to...

Meanwhile: trying to find my colors, limiting the colour count to 8 but got 7 now, don't like that big grey area either. Hm. Maybe as I add some texture it'll look better...

Update:
It's a poscard in the background. Gotta make it more recogniseable now...

just was informed about the color rule and that they cant be the same colors. D:

Give it more chins

@takikazama: that's a pretty novel reinterpretation :) I'd reduce the colour contrast in the sand tones so you don't need to dither as much.
