I am looking to commission a sprite artist for a turn based fantasy strategy game similar to the Advanced Wars and Fire Emblem series of games.
I am a hobbiest developer and this will be my second game. In my first game I did all the art myself and it received some valid critisism. So looking to invest in an actual artist this time.
The game is based on 64x64 pixel tiles, but I am commisioning art using a 32x32 tile size with the intention of scaling it up 2x for a more pixelated look. I wish I could say this is due to style, but this is more of a economic reason to keep my offering prices reasonable. That said, if you want to work at 64x64 instead I am more than happy to accept.
I am looking for someone to produce mainly units used in the game, and they are mostly your typical fantasy fare. Because each player in the game will have a specific color, the artist should use a reserved set of 2-8 colors to show a unit's side. These will be replaced with the actual player color at runtime, so of course these colors cannot be used normally.
The game has multiple factions, and I am offering $180 per faction unit set. Each faction has a total of 6 units with 6 frames each (2 idle, 2 sideways walk, 2 sideways attack). Initially I am looking to have 2 factions done (a Knight themed faction and an Undead themed faction).
I hope to add additional factions after the initial game launch, and hope that whomever I hire would be available for future work in this area.
In addition I am looking to have 4 map tiles done to represent the spaces that can be captured on the map. This includes: Castle, City, Town, and a Village. These are to be done at a 32x40 pixel size, also with the intention of upscaling them 2x. I am offering $40 for these, and hoping to have the same artist for all.
Sorry for the long post, let me summarize:
Seeking in essence 76 roughly 32x32 frames of fantasy style sprites for $400 with the likelyhood of future paid work for the same project later on.
My time frame is about 3 months. If interested, please send me an email with a link to your portfolio and any other projects you have worked on (previous work not required). I prefer a more cartoonish art style with simple color palettes. Something with a similar feel to Battleheart http://www.gamespot.com/battleheart/images/1412982/ - http://www.gamespot.com/battleheart/images/1412982/
would be ideal, but I am open to other styles.
