Hi everyone,
I posted some shots of the Adventure Apes and the Mayan Mystery game a long time ago here, and FINALLY have some new stuff to show off. It was an arduous journey to get to this point! Anyhow, it's your classic metroidvania game, starring a little monkey named Mitch, and he has to try and return a stolen magical artifact to its rightful owners.
I recorded a little video showing the first few levels here, check it out:)

If it seems like something you might like to play, you can download the game off the http://www.adventureapes.com - Adventure Apes website It is just a beta/demo version right now, so it'd be really cool to get some feedback and reaction to it, as I'm continually plugging away at it all. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for looking!

This looks like it would be a fun game. How much time have you put in to it in total?

Hey Dacto, this game has gone through a lot of various steps in its creation. It was originally just me working on the game, then I partnered up with a programmer for a year (that got scrapped unfortunately), and then another year and a half on my own again. All told, it's be over four years now!
I've actually just recently put out the full version of the game (still beta), but if you wanted to try your hand at finishing it, now's your chance to do it for free. When I do have it all ironed out, I'm hoping to have it up on a fe sites for a couple bucks:)
Anyways, here's the download page from my site:

The file is fairly large on the main link, because I've packaged it up with an illustrated instruction booklet:) Hope you like it!

Wow! Excellent work. I wasn't so impressed for the first few minutes, then the gameplay grabbed me. The first boss was a real thrill. Stopped playing there, ATM.
Very nice work on the art, especially in the booklet.
I must admit I didn't get the story. The connection between the bird and the monkeys.
Also, the game could use more refined style.
But overall, the gameplay conquers.

Thanks a lot for the comments LachieD! The story is a little vague, but if you manage to talk to Dr.A, he can help fill you in on why the situation is so dangerous. There really isn't much connection between birds and monkeys. I just thought that monkeys are always fun, and the bird just kind of happened.... With the more refined style, are you referring to the graphics? This is my first serious attempt at a game, so the whole ordeal was a huge learning experience! I'm hoping to take what I've learned with this and put it into making the next game(s) that much better :)
Anyhow, here is a link to a youtube video I put together that gives a little insight on each level. It might explain why the first part is a little slow!
