Been meaning to join these forums for a while since I've been really into spriting the last couple of weeks after Ludum Dare.  I finally had something solid to post after I spent some time making a tool to create palettes for Graphics Gale.

Sorry for making my first post kind of an advertisement, but the little tool I made is free and has already helped me make some decent art.

For now I'm calling it Palette F*ck (which is a tentative title).  It's used to generate better palettes based on blueish shadows and yellow highlights.  You just select a cell and use the sliders to get a base color, then press left and right to create shadows and highlights, or press up and down to blend colors above or below the selected one.

Hope this helps someone, making those color schemes was always tricky for me, but this kind of helps out.

(I noticed a bug when I tried it on my laptop, when in the browser saving the palette is kind of tricky. You have to press 'S', then right click and save the file as a '.pal'. I plan on fixing it sometime tomorrow)

Here's a quick sprite I made with the first palette I got from it.
Hope I'm not breaking any rules, I read over them and I'm pretty sure this is where tools like this go.

Derp, the board's content filter bleeped the curse word, so I replaced it with a tinyurl.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

EDIT: I just got off of work and fixed a couple of bugs with it.

I fixed some blending issues where shadows actually generated with a reddish hue and blending between yellow and blue would just be either yellow or blue instead of a gradient between.

I also added the ability to set the target shadow and highlight hue by clicking inside of the gradient.

Now if you wanted a purplish highlight or something you could swing it that way.

Someone on the Ludum Dare website requested an AIR app, so along with some bug fixes I made an AIR version and a tutorial for some quick tips on how to use it.

Very useful tool, thanks for sharing it!
I've spent some time searching for a similar app with more options, but found none. So I hope you're still interested in developping Palette Fvck, I have a few bug reports and feature suggestions for you:

Bugs:
- The Flash version uses a constant 70% of my CPU (a bit less when I drag sliders around, oddly enough). Tested with the Win and Linux version of the Flash plugin. Is there some infinite loop going on?
- Many little issues with the colors, like the hue back and forth jumps sometimes when approching white. But yeah, nothing major so maybe not worth your time.

Features that would help me, by decreasing order of importance:
- Sharing the source code. Would be cool if others could improve this app if you don't have time for it. :)
- A way to control the number of steps between black and white
- A way to control the speed of the hue variation.
- An option to define the grid's size

Alright, I'll keep the rest for later. ;)

I'd like to thank you for sharing this, as it is super kickass. I've always had trouble with blending colors within a palette. This tool is golden as far as I'm concerned, especially as a Graphics Gale user. Many thanks for creating such an awesome little app.

Thanks a ton! I completely understand if you call it finished, otherwise plz add 1) copy/paste  2) ability to move sections of colors within the palatte and 3) ability to pick horizontal ramp distance.. For instance, I wish I could get more dark hues when ramping left :)

Everyone's forgetting one thing;

Deleting misplaced colors without having to set it back to 0 0 0 Black.

Amazing! Exactly what I've always wanted.

As for features, though, I feel like click-and-drag to select multiple cells could be implemented? Don't know what for exactly, maybe delete, hue-shift...just some ideas.

Anyway thanks so much for this; I'll definitely be using it!

Maybe the ability to export as another file, maybe a Photoshop ACO or Gimp GPL?

Every time I manually convert a PAL file to a GPL (same basic file structure,) it never loads in Aseprite or Gimp.

Edit: Never mind, there were some extra, unneeded spaces at the end f the text, works perfectly.
