I just thought I would get some critiques on this sprite as I'm not quite sure where to go from here. We're planning on having 8 directions and I thought I should get the first one anatomically correct/shaded before moving onto the next ones (correct me if I shouldn't, I'm new to this kind of thing.)

Just an update: I thought I would attempt using a different style and a new palette. Not sure which would look better though. Also, if I use this style, should I continue with the shading I'm using or should I incorporate a light source and add highlights to it?

EDIT: Oh, and for clarification, I didn't use all of the colors in the palette. I just put them there in case I wanted to :p.

Another update. This one I went with a more low-shading approach and eliminated a couple of the colors from my palette. I like this rendition the best, personally, but some C+C would be great.

EDIT: I think the biggest problem with this one is the legs, but I'm not really sure what I could do to remedy it. Maybe add some shading for the knees?
EDIT2: I thought I'd combine because I just updated the legs a bit to reflect what my previous edit stated.

To be honest i think i preferred your first skin tone. not being racist or anything, it's just the peachy colour appealed to me *Shruggs*
As for the anatomy, the legs have no knees or form.
they're rectangles.
considering the rest of his body has some simple form, it makes sense to define his legs also, no?
Big thighs, knobbly knees, thin shins, ankle bone.
doesn't need to be super detailed but a 1px nip or tuck will help illustrate some form.
He doesn't have any shoulders/he looks like a hunchback
perhaps bringing the shoulders up a little/less slanted would help his arms not looking so long (even though in 'reality' they're kinda about the right length)
The face is pretty solid, not the way i'd draw it but it works, ears and eyes are well placed.
As for the palette, 5 colours total is about right for now. (not including the blue background obviously) although you could probably knock it down to 4 since the blue eyes aren't really distinguishable. (that is if we had to get technical =P it doesn't really matter too much.)
keep goin' and good luck.

Following your critique, this is what I came up with. The only solution I could find to the hunchback thing was to move his head down a pixel so he's more in line with his shoulders. I tried making the legs more defined by joining them a couple pixels down, but the knees are still a bit lacking.

Any critiques would be awesome. Partack's helped a lot.

I think the legs look a lot better now. Still working on the anatomy a bit. C+C is appreciated!

EDIT: I changed the knees a bit and I think they look a bit more realistic, as well as changing how the arms meet the chest. I think it's about time to move onto a different view unless anyone has more crits.

EDIT: a skinnier version.

the skinnier face looks better in my opinion but his legs look like chicken feet in the last edit if you get what i mean.
I think i liked the legs one edit before skinny version. also i think i liked the feet from that version too, (the one without toes). Lowering the groin was probably a good idea, although in-proportionate, i think the stumpy legs work for this particular character.
mix n match, see what comes of it =) not much else i can say about this piece really.
if all else fails, start the different angle and come back to this later *Shruggs*
good luck .

the first version is still better, try just updating the face and reducing one pixel between his legs, it will look better.
