I was supposed to draw myself as the last character I'd played in a video game. It was http://riot-web-static.s3.amazonaws.com/images/news/March_2012/2012_03_16_lulu_reveal/Lulu_Splash.jpg - her .

Improve on colors. Give it a try on the colors from your source!

That's the in-game color pool.

Lulu's hair is darker and her robe is kinda purple not red that's all the differences i can see.

well thats the ingame, you shall pick the art spotlight one. Also, you didn't picked the correct colors from the shot. Go for the purple ones.

That hat is the wrong shape. It curves in as it goes up. Yours bows out as it goes up.

@Gamamoto: That's the lighting, her wand and Pix (the fairy) both shine purple. Also, it's supposed to be me dressed as her, which I stated in my first post.

@philippejugnet: Well, if you look at the reference closely, you'll see that the colors won't work at pixel level smoothly at all.

@Zeratanus: You make a very good point, I tried to fix it here:

Let's make the expression a little less south-park and a little more animesque like the original source, shall we?

If you want to take it further, you could work on consolidating the palette. Your two red ramps are similar enough to be fused into one so that you'd get more space for magenta-pink for robes and hair.

Going for drazelic's edit:

You shoudnt be that closed minded.

You guys are great. And yeah, I'm pretty closed minded...

I tried to make it more like Lulu than me, why not? And I noticed that you guys tried to make it a bit less symmetrical, so I tried that as well.

Saw some issues with the hair and ears, so I fixed them as best I could. Oh, and I also needed a bump :p

Snap! I made her look like a top-down sprite :(

Well I'm not really a sprite artist but here are my 2 cents. As you can see I went for dark hairs without details to make her face popup more. I hue-shifted dark red - which is kinda brown on your sprite - towards purple so it can work better with dark purple outline/hairs. You could use different shades of yellow on hat and clothing ornament to give a sprite more volume. Also I'd hue shifted darkest yellow shade towards red

Woah, a3um, you're so skilled! I way admire your work.

I tried to change some of the colors to fit your work a little more.

I darkened the hair, but I don't like that pure black :(

Also, loving that angle, but I don't quite see a reason for me to change it like that?

Anyway, I think I'll post this now. It's a ton better than it had been, all thanks to you guys.

Next time I'll try to pose it some...
