Hi there!

This is my first attempt at pixel art and I browsed a few forums before deciding on this forum for critique, so I hope you can give me some constructive criticism :)

As you can see, I've done three variations. I'm not at all sure about the outline coloring or the shading (shadowing?), but it's what I got for now :)

Here they are at 3800%, just to give you a better view of the pixels.

2:
3:

I think my favourite is number 3, mainly because I feel that's the one I most accurately captured the robe, even though I don't have room for eyes unless I go "Cyclops" like number 1.

Your colours do not seem to contrast enough. Since this is a very small sprite, you need sharply contrasting values to improve the readability of the piece. Also, the small images seems to have been saved in jpeg because they are very noisy and do not match the larger images when I open them.

Sorry about the jpeg. Below is an attempt at using clearer colors and it's saved as PNG.

Comparison old, first attempt, second attempt (number 3):

I'm trying to make a 16x16 image of a mage in a red robe conjuring a spell (blue ball) between his hands, in case any one was confused :)

Edit: Second attempt is using a few pointers from your version, both in the color department and layout. Enchanced the sphere as well. I think it came out a lot better than the previous versions
