More specifically, the halo behind this bird.



It's supposed to be a plain, black disc, but somehow looks like an unfinished afro if I leave it with a flat color.

flat color+ cast shadow from the head? add a highlight hugging the edge closest to us so we can see that it's a thin flat disc.

The edge closest to us would be in shadow, though. The light source is coming in from the left
