Hi everyone,
As a programmer I've not done any pixel art before, but for my most recent project as a learning exercise I've been trying to make my own graphics. I've been working on a 3x3 oversized pixel shoot em up for the iPhone.
Would appreciate "as honest as you like" feedback and criticism, I'm here to improve.
The one thing I'd like to say that I'm fully aware of, the parallax clouds are not properly pixelled, I used a mosaic effect which has resulted in colours that are outside of the 6 colour palette I have given myself. So that will need redoing at some point. Otherwise, please comment away, the rest I have done from scratch!

I would buy the hell out of this game. Even though I don't like shooters.

I'd play this game for sure, it looks very retro and the big pixels are always cool as hell.
If it delivers with the speed and action, then the graphics are definitely ok for it :)

your pixel art reminds me of studio pixel who is known for cave story and has the same pixel style like yours.

Thanks guys for your compliments!
Those are actual screenshots of the current build, I have a preview video as well.

Not quite representative of the current version but it does show what kind of look and feel I am going for, retro pixel for sure.
Please feel free to offer any technical critiques of my art. Overall I am pleased with the style and mood but I'm well aware there are flaws technically, especially with my palette choice and my shading. I would be very grateful if anyone can offer some advice in this regard :)

I now have an official trailer up.

Regarding the sprites, I have had some very good feedback and suggestions over at the Art section of TIGSource. Not sure if I'm allowed to link to another forum, but as it is a good shading tutorial I thought it would be useful to any others here.

Credit to irishcream for providing help (although I have yet to implement the improvements at this point!)
