Scratch is a free application used for all kinds of stuff like games, animation, etc. Scratch projects can be accessed over the internet or downloaded.

Upside.. The code is based on drag & drop blocks and is pretty easy to learn. The Scratch website hosts user pages for free although it is all ages so nothing to violent, etc is allowed. No 3d, the screen size is 480x360 zoomed to full screen.

Downside.. Projects are single-user only. 10M file size limit. Youhave to learn to code but you can get help 24/7 in the forums. Scratch programs must play back either in the online player or via the free downloadable app (everything is free btw)

I spent a few years there, here is my page http://scratch.mit.edu/users/Locomule - http://scratch.mit.edu/users/Locomule . I have a few finished games. I spent a lot of time helping others learn to code so most of my projects are various aspects of games (sorting, movement, collision detection, jumping, tiling, etc)

Now that I am getting into pixel art, I have a reason to go back and do some cool stuff. I am posting this here because I think Scratch is a great environment for pixel artists who want to make their art move, be used in a game, etc.

If you have any questions about Scratch, feel free to message me, I am pretty good with it. There are also a lot of people looking for artwork but you will have to be careful to make sure you aren't wasting hard work on nowhere projects.
