Citizens of PixelJoint--

For the past few months I have been working on an indie game project involving a number of great artists recruited from PixelJoint. I started by asking for http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=14594 - sprites and getting a phenomenal response. Then I commissioned some high-quality http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=14961 - backgrounds . Now we're down to the finishing touches, and I need help with a logo!

First, a little about our project: it's not a video game, it's a card game inspired by our love of classic video games. We call it...

Boss Monster: Master of the Dungeon

Boss Monster is a fun and fast-paced "dunegon-building" card game for 2-4 players. As a Boss, your goal is to lure hapless adventurers into your dungeon and consume their souls. But beware! Your dungeon must be as deadly as it is enticing, or the puny heroes can actually survive long enough to wound you. More importantly, you have competition. Adventurers are a hot commodity, and other Boss Monsters are all trying to outdo you with more precious treasures and more nefarious traps. Are you a bad enough dude to become the ultimate Boss Monster?

Because the game's key inspirations are old-school RPGs and retro video games, it's totally illustrated with pixel art. Each card represents a "room" in a side-scrolling dungeon, a Hero moving through the dungeon, or the Boss at the end of the dungeon. Here are a few sample cards:

The game is a homegrown effort, and has been entirely self-funded so far. But we've gotten great results from playtesters and people who have seen the game early, and we're looking forward to launching a successful http://www.kickstarter.com/profile/brotherwise - Kickstarter campaign next month.

Logo Needs

I am looking for a logo that meets the following specs:

  • Size of about 128 pixels wide by 64 pixels tall
  • Delivered as a PSD or PNG
  • Retro look inspired by late NES or early SNES title screens
  • Themed to dungeons, monsters, and villainy
The artist chosen must be willing and able to:
  • Deliver work on a work-for-hire basis (all commercial rights purchased by me)
  • Accept payment via PayPal
  • Accept one round of edits/comments within the $40 fee
  • Provide your real name, so your work can be credited
  • Accept direction via e-mail, and be at least okay at English :)
For this project we can only pay a deliverable-based fee; unfortunately, our limited budget does not allow us to pay by the hour.

Logo Insipiration

Here is some art direction for the logo, including some examples of logos with the sort of look I'm going for:

How to Apply

No need to try making the actual logo. Please just share examples of your past work and e-mail me to confirm that you will be able to meet all the requirements above.

Please post here if you have any questions about this project ...or about the game!

Thanks for all the interest in this project! I have selected an artist.

And thanks again to the PixelJoint community. I've been blown away by the artists here, and the game looks so much better than when I started working with PixelJoint artists.
