Hey all,
New to the forum so I might as well introduce myself: my name is Sam and I'm heading development on an episodic RPG called Wanderings. The game is similar in style to Terranigma, Chrono Trigger, or Lunar but with a heavy focus on identifying and crushing underfoot the cliches and tropes of Japanese RPGs that have made the genre grow stale as of late. But it's not all negative, I definitely want to preserve and revive the elements that gave it that nostalgic magic in the glory days of SNES rpgs, like: overworld maps, fallible characters, and challenging dungeons that require some grind. Yes, this is a lofty goal, but I believe that we, as a team of enthusiasts with little at stake, are the most capable of turning the clock back to the days of wanting to stay up all night leveling.
The team is about 10 people consisting of programmers, writers, musicians, and background/concept artists, but I have yet to find a character artist that fits the theme; and that's where you come in.
The prototype battle system is almost fully developed but it's quite the eyesore with programmer art and a non-unified art style of first-time pixel artists. I need to have a fully playable test of it finished by early-February, and to do that I need one 40x90 character with 16-bit color limitations animated with 'run', 'attack', and 'get hit' animations. Currently the battles are set up so that the character is facing SW with a 3/4 top down view and I'd like to keep that for this test.
Stylistically, I am much more fond of highly stylized, flowy animations rather than characters with a lot of detail. But feel free to send me whatever samples you have and I will look it over
If you are interested please do contact me at sam.loesch@gmail.com with some character samples and we can start talking rates.
Thanks! Sam
