Hi, I used to go by Colin Sick on the Pixelation forum (I'm back from
China for those of you who knew). I'm upset Pixelation is gone , and I'm upset about the baselessly self-important attitude I may've noticed on other pixel forums, so I'm posting this here.
I'm doing an unofficial sequel to the NES game River City Ransom called Brass Knuckles and Belt Buckles. The
gameplay is dead-on River City Ransom, but with grappling a la
Wrestlefest. The other difference is bitches with stitches -
girls that fight!
I'm looking for another artist or two to join me in pixelling this
thing.
You'd need to be able to adopt the Brass Knuckles style, prove yourself
in animation (anyone can pixel a hat: animating takes balls), and be as
equally lazy as I am, but preferably less.
It's being coded in Flash and I've got quite a bit done already - learning as I go.
Anybody interested? Do you know anyone who'd be interested?
Below is an old mockshot and a random selection of unanimated
characters (spot anyone you know?)

More info: Aside from the opening scene (some neighbourhood chavs
steal your car radio), nearly the entire game is references and
homages, blatant and obscure, to B-movies like They Live, Dawn of the
Dead, Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! and other videogames like Mortal
Kombat, Double Dragon, etc.
... and here's a Ninja for good measure. Kick ass!

Pulp London... I love you.
River City Ransom is my all time favorite game of all time -- no joke. I wish I could help, but I'm seriously backed up with projects right now. Maybe in a couple of months I can help contribute some art. I would love love love to be apart of your project though. If you need a place to host your project or anything else to help your project be successful please let me know.
You've done some fantastic work so far. I'd love to see what you've got going in Flash. This made my freaking week!

Holy crap, it's Colin Sick! You probably have no idea who I am, since I joined Pixelation about the same time that you left it.
Just to get to the point, I'd love to help you with this. Although I'm
working on other stuff, I could make time for this. Except for when I
go to Seattle for a few weeks this summer. I'm not too sure I'd be able
to capture the style of the game perfectly, mainly because I've never
played it, but I've seen enough screenshots and various animations from
it to get it down decently.
I'll animate one of the characters if you're interested in seeing it.

Sweet. I'm glad an excellent pixel artist like Blick is a potential contributor. Good luck fellas and once again, let us know if you need anything to help this important project!

sedgemonkey: Thanks for the offer. I just might take you up on the webspace
when I've got something done worth playing :)
tommy j4sun: Who's the last guy? The
last guy is supposed to be the girl from the
Korean film "My Wife is a
Gangster 2" I bought it because the chick on the cover
looked so
cool - movie doesn't live up to the cover though...
Blick: I remember everyone. I've
got your banana portrait on my HD. It's okay if
you're busy, I
really just need to join up with someone to bounce images off of and
kick my ass and tell me I'm lazy and threaten to do more on the game
than I will :)
Plus, making games is lonely.
I'm interested in seeing your animation. Animate whoever
doing whatever. You can post the animation here or send it to me!

Although I dont have much of a history with this particular game (I think I mightve played it once, or atleast something similar!) I'd definatley be keen to help! Plus Id only be wasting my time pixelling other things.
I feel I can adopt this style, I like using limited colours and youve set a pretty neat template already.
Ive also got experience in game making, however not in Flash.
Aaaarh, check out my pixel joint gallery to see my work, http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixels/profile.asp?id=279 - here , especially the 'Black Hole' characters around the 3rd and 4th pages. Theyre animated in a simple style, and are the only thing I can think of that Ive done that would suit the River City Ransom style. I am however willing to learn, as I havent played this game as much as most people here.
Im very keen, so please consider me! Goodluck either way.

I've
got your banana portrait on my HD.
Wow, I didn't expect that anyone would ever go through the trouble of saving that thing.
Who can resist the pelvic thrust?

I'll post a serious animation tomorrow. By the way, what's the
magnification you have the sprites at out of the magnification? It's an
awkward zoom, to get the sprite to 1x to make it easier to handle, I
had to just remake it rather than going to zoom 50% or any other common
number like that.
Actually, looking at it now it looks like 6x zoom...

The first pic is x2, second is x3.
Here's the four basic bodies for dudes to help you out - all have just
minor differences in the head structure. As a note, usually I
just use 2 shades per colour, one being 25% darker than the
other. tommy j4sun, I'd like to see you take a shot at predator or Ahhrnold like you said :)

And nothing adds more dramatic effect to any situation than pelvic
gyrations. There is no rebuttal for it.

3x, 6x, same thing.
Thanks for the bases. Will make it much easier to animate.

I noticed the funny scale thing aswell.
Would it be too much to ask for a palette of the colours youve already used? Cos I tend to choose much lighter shades, but I want to keep it consistant when fiddling.

Don't worry about the colours. I swear I'm pretty much mentally
handicapped when it comes to palletes. I have no concept of
colour, and I pixel on a faded laptop screen. I usually just, um,
borrow colours from other people (oh, the shame! the shame!) and hope
they look fine. MR.T looks a little dark.
I haven`t quite marked out a set pallete yet.
You can just eyedrop the colours from the pics above if you like.

That pelvic thrust animation is the sh*t. I've always wanted a thrusting Mr. T.

So, is this game going to allow you to pick up all the random objects (including people) and use them as weapons like the orginal?
|
Posted By: Pulp London
Date Posted: 24 April 2005 at 2:50pm
I emailed you Blick.
iSTVAN: Anything?
sedgemonkey: Yeah. I've got chucking things like people
and trashcans animated satisfactorily, and whapping people with
baseball bats too. The "being whapped" animations aren't up to
snuff yet though, and the grapples a la Wrestlefest give me
trouble.

I finally grabbed a ROM of this game the other day and realized I totally forgot how awesome this game was. The only I noticed that sucks bigtime is the stupid password thingy. It's a million miles long. So, if you want to start where you left off from the last time you have to type it in perfectly or else you're screwed.
Maybe this version will just have a simple save game system put in place?

tommy j4sun: I thought you offered to pixel Predator or Arnie from Commando - give it a shot.
pixelblink: I wouldn't
have the first clue about coding a save system in flash. Maybe it
could be stored in cookies - I dunno. I actually wanted to
include the password system, just because it's so ridiculously long and
inconvenient it's funny in itself :)

You are such a sadist! If you wanted to host the game at Pixel Joint we could store passwords in a database. We could also store all sorts of other personalized goodies for the gamers too. Just a suggestion.

You're such a pixel philanthropist Segde. That'd be sweet. I've avoided playing RCR today just becuase I don't want to spend a half an hour putting in the password

You're absolutely right Blick, but if it's a Flash game on the internet you would most likely be connected for the duration. If it's a downloadable Flash game being designed we could have it load from local XML files. I could do all the Action Scripting coding to get the config data into Flash if y'all need help with that.

I know this post is pretty old but I have been looking for someone like you for a long time. I am also working on a River City Ransom game. Although my characters are just based on friends and I kept with the same color scheme as the NES. I was going to put Spiderman in mine but my god man, the three dudes from Big Trouble in Little China. Amazing. We definitely need to collaborate on something. Check out my gallery to see the animations I posted. And I would love your actual email.

As I spouted off and worked off the coding for such an event.

Damn this thread for making me sign up for an account all premature like.

@b2thec
You're necroposting from like 3 years ago. You could post in the off-topic thread asking something along the lines of "Anyone seen Colin Sick/Pulp London around and know where I could get a hold of him?"
In this way, you could sound a lot less like a childish prick and a lot more like someone worth "collaborating with".
And for the record, being welcomed is a two-way street. Coming into someone's house and peeing down their staircase ain't gonna get you any warm hospitality.

Wowowow buddy, I'm just trying to help out. I may seem a little blunt at times but if you knew proper Internet etiquette, then I would not have been so mean sounding. If someone as not shown up in two years, consider him gone. Starting a new topic looking for other people would have been better because of three good reasons:
1. The chances of this guy showing up and helping you or collaborating with you are slim to none, as stated before.
2. It is not proper to necropost, making you look like a... noob if I may.
3. More people being asked to recruit gives a higher chance of working with that person.
Because you showed such immaturity while handling this situation then I don't think anyone will be willing to wrok with you until you start showing some basic internet knowledge. Again, I'm sorry if I offended you and I don't want this to turn into a ridiculous, unessecary flame war. I'll let the mods handle it from here.
Cheers.
Jeff
