I've been having some trouble animating running and walking into such small sprites. I was wondering if someone could help me out!

I'd check some walk animation cycles of different game sprites. 4-8 frames would be enough for a walk animation for your legs.
I'd add another shade since you have no outline and it will probably be difficult to see which leg is moving forward in each frame. |
