I started spriting yesterday and I was playing around in Photoshop since it has a pixel tool these days. However, it doesn't have an eraser that's easy to use, it sort of erases outside of the pixel.

So I was wondering if there's a way around this or if I should use another program altogether? I'd prefer photoshop since it's what I'm used to. I've always used PS.

Thankyas!

I use PS almost exclusively and its great if you are already used to PS.
Your problem is your settings. There are some settings help in the resource section and others are online. Do a search for them. Here's one

The main thing with PS is to use its bare minumum tool only. Pencil, eraser, fill, lasso, layers are ok. Almost everything else is uncool.

Yeah I've noticed that PS can be a bit tricky. I'll follow that link you sent, thanks for that!

Anyhow.. is there really anything else you'd need than these things, though? It works for animating too.

Apparently it didn't work for CS6. Only the pen tool works but that's a problem, since the eraser is still useless. It does that ugly erase-beyond-pixel-area thing.

It feels to me like you are actually looking for an excuse to use something else.

Which is good in my opinion; Sure, PS can do digital painting, touchups, and pixel art -- but it's only 'the best' at touchups - that's the only thing it feels like it's designed for and makes easy; Painter or MyPaint is better for painting, ProMotion or Grafx2 is better for pixel art.
They have tools that make (painting/pixeling/animating) significantly easier than it can be in PS, so there is a meaningful choice to be made between convenience (PS) and efficiency (separate tools for separate purposes).

absolutely.

I'm not making an excuse, I'd actually prefer to use Photoshop if I could make the eraser more pixel art friendly.
