I sent Legice a private message.
He was first.  Anybody can download VMware

then, install sparrowos, while running in Windows (or Linux).

but it requires me buying a professional license for VMWare Workstation to get files in and out.  It's like $250.

I'm just going to let people browse around and send me proposals
for what they want to improve.  Don't do any serious work until you
are running with the professional VMWare.  I guess you could do screenshots
to get things out, but that's a little messy.

I'll be more than happy to answer questions.

First question is probably how to import BMP files.

1) Make an image in MS Paint and save it a as a 16-color BMP.
2) If you have the professional VMWare, you mount the drive with write
access.  It can only be mounted when you have it "powered off" in vmware.
3) Copy into the VMWare drive.
4) Start SparrowOS.
5) right click on the file in a directory listing.  "Type" the BMP file to display it
on the command line.
6) Hit <CTRL-T> to toggle to plain text. Go up to the line with $FU$$SP,????$$FU$

7) delete all $ commands after the $SP...$ command.  Hit <CTRL-T>
8) Copy on clip board by holding SHIFT while cursoring over the $SP...$ command.  Now it's on the clipboard.
9) Paste into a source file.

-----

You can edit or create graphics with <CTRL-R> in the source code.

WinImage is a $50 program that would let you get files in and out of a VMware install as an alternative to buying the professional VMware workstation.

I'm going to probably buy Legice VMWare, though, because it allows stretching to full-screen.  Only, if he's still interested after exploring SparrowOS.

VMWare Player version 4.0 has sound that works, I think.  You might want to try that version.  Version 5.0, PC speaker doesn't work.  There's nothing wrong with 4.0.

VMWare workstation is a whole different thing and sound doesn't work.

You can try a native install, not in VMware, but it's difficult to get working -- you have to find I/O ports for the CDROM and Hard Drive.  It's not always possible to get it working.  You need to dual boot -- you put files on a FAT32 partition and boot Windows to get them out.

I changed the name to TempleOS.  Now, I need a good splash screen!  Any ideas what should be the icon?
