Hello!
I'm trying my best with 4color stuff to improve my pixel-technique and thought that the most fun way is to immitate some GB graphics.
So I'm doing some GB-graphics every now and then.
I will crosspost them here and on http://www.wayofthepixel.net/index.php?topic=15329.0 - pixelation to get critique and opinions.

I plan to update this header every now and then with new and updated stuff.

As first six portrait variations I did with a mirror:
(old)

I intend to use the middle bottom as avatar here, on the gallerie and on pixelation and want to make sure I haven't done any mayor mistakes.
(current)

Here are some 16x16 tiles done throughout the year. I had to sort them somewhat, otherwise I would have posted them sooner.

And to view them in some context a few mockups:

Note that I have made some edits and extras in the mockups which I haven't make in the tiles, yet (the shadow from the font, two sprites and the portrait).

Some of the stuff I learned from or used as reference:

I used the http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixels/challenge_item.asp?id=1131 - Game Boy Turns 20 challenge palette plus transparenecy.

Also I can't say how active I will be, so sorry in advance if it takes me some time before I read your comment and/or critique.

I also like the middle bottom, but you can also try to put all the frames together and made an animation. Just to see if it looks better like that.

The point is that, if i have to choose, i would choose the one who is more clear, without forcing your eyes.

you used 4 colors, and you did it great.

Great that you tried out al the variations! I think middle bottom is best too!
The hair, both the facial and on top looks a bit funny for me. Perhaps make similar experiments? Less detail might look better.

Thanks Marina and Hapiel!
@Marina
Thank you for that suggestion. Will try that!
@Hapiel
Oh, you're right! What I tried with the hair just didn't work the intended way and turned out to be pixelnoise .
I worked a bit on it with bigger shapes and think it already improved a lot.
I will try to upload it tomorrow through. It's late here and I need some sleep.

I changed the hair, fiddled with the light and corrected the ear, which I think was too short in comparison to the nose.

Hopefully I can update tomorrow with some tiles and sprites I did over the last couple of months.
I have to search for the refs again and should probably arrange them since they are in a big messy file

I've made a new mockup with these tiles to compete in http://jamato-sun.deviantart.com/art/Spring-love-Gameboy-3000-points-pixel-contest-369057858 - this competition.

http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/77961.htm - Also the pixeljoint link is here.
I'm not very happy with the titlescreen.
Also I tried my hand at some sprites

and to do something like a swordslash

and a little interface with portrait

I'm currently struggling with stairs, how to make them interesting and how to make them work on cliffs.

problem is that the front and back stairs on the cliff is uninteresting and that the side stairs doesn't work with anything higher that a 1 tile high cliff.
I could add some shadows to the front and back stairs, but then I would have the same problem as with the sidestairs.

Would be dope to get suggestions and examples to this problem plus of course any c&c to everything posted.
