Hello everyone , i am a complete noob in arts in general , and i'm tryin to learn something in the Pixel art. I've mostly did some minor game design but i truly wish to be able to do some assets at least for prototyping. I already read quite a few tutorials around the web, and now it's a couple of days i'm tryin to do some by myself.
The biggest problem i find is about making a char without a reference.
I did this referencing an existing human char art and revisiting it to a goblin.

Resized to 128x128 from 32x32 , for showing purpose

But if i try to do somethin without reference the results are something worst than hell

Should i keep learning by referencing, and eventually get the hang of it, or keep trying without hoping in a refinement throught hard work ?
Any personal opinion and tips are more than welcome !

PS: Sorry for my english but isn't my native language.

try to compare the differences between the one you did your self and the one you did with reference.  Specifically, the color contrasts, and the pose of the character.  After you note all the differences, try to make another sprite without a reference, trying to incorporate the things you thought worked better with the goblin sprite.

Thanks for answering.
I tried without referencing, keeping in mind your advices.

Surely it's better than before (without ref) but still way to go compared to the goblin.

I'll keep trying , but again any advice for a beginner like me would be really appreciated.
