Hi, I'm new here although I roamed around from time to time.

I'd love any tips on how I can improve this. I'm trying to learn new shading and texturing pixelart techniques other than my usual 3-5 color depth manga style shading (last pic).

I want a really rich environnement but keeping the overall clarity. I'm having trouble here finding a way to have a good contrast between front and back row while keeping good harmony. Also the sun is a major theme in the game, so I'm afraid that lighting the front view doesn't make sens with having a darker front view and light backgrounds.

Hope I'm making any sens. Would love any kind of suggestions!

Welcome!
By the looks of things, it seems like you saved this as a jpeg. Kind of makes it tough to zoom in and critique.
Also, I don't really like those oranges on the 2nd mockup/screenshot.
The trickling water in the 3rd screenshot is a little messy. Some places the water is connecting each pixel of water; some places have gaps.
Also, do your semi-transparent light beams have clean angles?
Well, welcome to pixeljoint! I would advise participating in weekly challenges or collab (collaborations) if you want extra practice. They can be a lot of fun, and a good way to meet the community.

Thanks, sorry I'll fix for PNG soon.

The orange were a quick contrast switch to test dark background. It's pretty hard to get good color palettes. The water indeed not retouched, I plan on animating it and actually animating every herb, trees, etc.

As the light beams, they are 45degree rotated objects in the game. I'm thinking of adding gradient to it but I cannot make it pixelated for technical reasons.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll try to squeeze some time for the weekly challenges.

edit: the only one I can get into png for now..
