ALRIGHT!
And so it begins...

Let's see some tiles for Sedgemonkey's Painforest.
I wanna see:
  1. Jungle Floor
  2. Trees and tree tops
  3. Painful Trees and tree tops
Whatever you think would go good in Sedgemonkey's Painforest...
Let's see it...

That's not looking too bad, very nice pallette. It's sort of strange how it's more of a pattern than a more natural looking texture however.

I agree with larwick. The pattern is strange to me to. The dirt looks good i'm just not feelin the grass. It's a little to monotonous.

Well Sibix, just make it look more natural. So yes, vary.

Thats quite nice shark, it's much more similar to the seabed tiles in style, without any black lines. I guess that was what you were aiming for?

I think a background colour inbetween the two you've chosen would look better.

thats not a final bg color i was jus showing the different mud colours
for light and dark bgs, i think the top looks better, more creepy, but
the bottom one has better colours.

Shark: I like those tiles alot. They seem more natural than the other ones (sorry Sibix)

GreyKnight: The tree is great but, I really don't think it suits the jungle theme

Yeeey, i love it! Theres something wrong with the dark green lines abruptly stopping on the sides of the floating platforms though... maybe. You could make the roots go around them a bit ... right?

The dirt looks a bit like it's floating and not planted.
I think it's the left side that makes it look like this...

Also, maybe try making some vines hang down?

Shark, I really <3 these tiles, but I don't like the solid dark color for the top or the fact that it smoothly drapes down the sides.

Any chance it would look more 'rough' if we break it up a bit, like this:

You could have a tile that has more roots/vines coming off of it and then have the vines coming off of that, surely?

When I hear "forest" I think of a bunch of firs and oaks, and the name is Sedgemonkey's Painforest.

its a pun of rainforest, which is more of a jungle.

its cool, jus not tropical enough, perhaps work with it.

Yeah, as a take on rainforest. Maybe you could make another that's more suited to rainforests? I really liked the other, but it wouldnt really work.

werent they my tiles? JJ just edited a little bit.

i like that waterfall, is that some sorta aztec mask coming through?
This is good however i think they should be big tree and various
plants as opposed to the very GREENness leaves.   SO massive tree
trunks and vines and various plants would be cool.

I like it, adds to the confined space of the 2dness. Perhaps darken it and lower the saturation though.

We should have different areas if people want different things, this could just be one where there's alot of shrubbery, then we could also have other backgrounds, cus it's gunna be boring to have the same terrain all the way through right?

ok, i thought that the tiles could be used as different levels, using the
waterfall as an obsticle of some sort, the level of leaves needs work
and more definition (on the top block i put in some basic dark lines)
but perhaps some1 else could do that, time is limited here:

Yes, sorry, I simply said it wrong, wanted to say the version he made.

I agree about what the others said, some trees will be needed for the rainforest as well - sure thing. Different areas within one level like Larwick said.

This is all coming together nicely. I'd like to see a terrain with tonnes of red, pink and purple (giant) flowers blooming, that would be amazing. There could be killer bees...

I think the leaves are too much. Go with something else, such as a phat bush or a tree or something. Maybe a big stabbity rock. The leaves fit the forest part, but I'm not yet feeling the pain.

Y'ken?

I honestly haven't looked at all the spiffy work you guys have been doing on this project and I'm really having a great time checking out all your hard work.  Beautiful stuff.

Couple crits:  The leaves in the bg are well done, but a little overwhelming. Maybe they could be pushed up so they're more like a tree canopy?  The water looks like it's coming out of nowhere... it looks like it needs to come out of a stone hole in a wall or at the top of a ledge.

Hey there guys!
I gave this a quick shot but I have some questions before I'll really dive into this

1. Is this whole thing still active (I mean not only theoretically)?
2. Tile-size is 24x24 right?
3. What's the resolution (was it 320x200)?

Those tons of threads are a bit confusing.
Anyways here is an alternative to the already posted tiles (I know there isn't much to see, especially not very forest-like things...YET).

[+] 1 new tile (yeah fantastic I know!)

Hehe, sorry Niss.

~Yes it's still 'active'... although it isn't really 'active'. It's great you're trying to help though.
~I'm not sure. D=
~Again, i have no idea. =D

Your tiles look incredible, like, awesome. But i'm not sure how well they'd fit the style. I know we keep going on about that but it's good to keep a general scheme to it all.

I should make the trees and dropping melons (yeah, with that splattering animation when the melon drops to the ground). And with trees I mean trees like in that Big Nose game (NES, I think) where you can skate on branches.

Yeah I felt like pixelling some tiles and since there was not really any developpement on the painforest side i decided to give it a shot.

I'm not exactly pleased with it.. it does look very junglish but not very painful

neway tell me what you think and fell free to edit as much as you want.

Theres no background and It's a very small resolution since i was lazy and only made it 320*240

And thats the tileset for those intereseted.

Heart was inspired by pixelblink heart in the iceworld tileset.

well dude... aside from the fact we are using 32x32 tiles these aren't bad. With a bit of tweaking here and there, I'm sure we can make them fit somehow.

I added some tileable trees. Well, a tree trunk, I couldn't make some very good leaves, so I left it as it is.

Also, I left the other images on so you can all compare, and I used the same colours as in the original tiles. And that green thing underneath the leaves that I failed to make is just so the centre is easier to find.

And thats the tileset for those interessted in editing it.. ill try and add some treetopfloortiles and if someone could give a shot at the background.. i would be quite happy..

these are superb my friend!
I think what the waterfall needs is to be a bit more blended in with the dark background it's flowing over.
Also the end grass tile pieces look kinda drab. Maybe have them rounded off a bit more or have some extra foilage drooping on the side.
All in all, top notch! I'd like to see what you'd do with my iceworld tiles. Feel free to play around with them.
