Hey.. needing some help with shading a figure. It's a thief supposed to be crouching and leaning forward. I'm pretty happy with lineart though, I just have no idea where to start with adding detail, shading etc.

The idea I'm going for here is to eventually have characters for four main RPG classes (Mage, Warrior, Ranger, Thief), for no reason other than fun. I'm not the best pixel artist though so I'll be taking it slow...

So here is the character-

And I am using a 39 color palette which I made (and pretty proud of)

Any help will be much appreciated, thank you :)

Start with a limited pallet man, your gonna get lost and confused, 16 is considered tons and also try dithering to bring it down, start with the easy areas like the shoulders, where the light will just hit around the edge (assuming that's the light source), always try get more natural curves too, it will make him look more energetic :)

No, the palette is general, I'm gonna use it for all 4 of the characters not just this one. I can pick which ones I'm gonna use for this one without much trouble :)

As for shading, I took your advice and started shading starting from the top, where the light it. Here's where I've got so far.. I'm alright with it, but the wrists I am not too happy on, any criticisms are welcome.
