I always feel like I'm submitting to some borderline-illegal avatar repository when I submit to PJ rather than a pixel art gallery/community, because of the keywords PJ tags onto all submissions. (submission title) avatars, 9submission title) icons, etc. I know that PJ isn't like that, but are those keywords really necessary?

I don't submit my work here for it to show up as a "(whatever) avatar." That's not why I made it, that's not what I want it to be used for, so I don't want keywords like that along with my submission.

Besides, major search engines don't even rely on keyword lists for result ranking/gathering anymore, most spiders are programmed to ignore them. It's very 90s, I think it's high time to get rid of them.

I realise this is a petty complaint and that I'm probably among the few who even notice those keywords. Web spiders sure don't.

pixeljoint IS an art gallery/community.

NO. Don't fill them in.
Keywords are for other PJers to easily find refs and examples when making their own pixels and searching thru over 50,000 pixelarts.

That is an artifact from a bygone age. http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixels/news.asp?userid=100 - Originally PixelJoint was a collection of avatars and emotes.

And no, that's not going to change any time soon. Ask our staff about our fried pickles update 3.0.

Jal, I think this is about how the gallery page systematically adds "search engine keywords" based on the piece's title :
$title avatars, $title icons, $title pixel art, $title forum avatars, $title AOL Buddy Icons

I think you misread my post. I was talking about keywords that are added automatically after the submission. They make PJ look like something other than an art community.

greenraven: Ah, I didn't know that. Thank you.
Would be nice if they got rid of them though.
