Some of my guilty pleasures in movies:
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen The Chronicles of Riddick (just for the special effects) Old School Joyride Notting Hill (yup, I'm a guy and I love that movie... funny as hell and just a good script... charming and it flows well)
just some to start you off thinking

Old School is too damn funny... "ear muffs"
This is a great topic... spill your guts on potentially embarassing entertainment eh?
- Titanic -- Saw it twice in the theater (not intentionally, but loved it both times).
- Love Actually -- My fave "chick flick".
- The Matrix Reloaded -- The action was great and I didn't think the dialogue was that bad.
- Star Wars Episode 1 -- All you have to do is ditch Jar Jar and that whole funky alien race, replace that pathetic kid actor, keep Darth Maul for the future and tone down the Amos and Andy routines and you'd have a damn good flick.
- Final Destination -- The movie was pretty crappy, but there's one scene in the beginning that totally freaked me out.
- Event Horizon -- The last really scary movie I saw in the theater. Good actors in it too. Sam Neil is such a huge freak.
- King of Queens -- Standard crap sitcom TV in syndication can be funny.
- 21 Jumpstreet -- Watched the whole first season again last month on DVD and loved every corny second of it.
- New TMNT episodes -- They follow the comic book really closely and the animation is much better.

Well Mean Girls is funny because it shows how girls really are in school.
S.W.A.T. was an awesome action movie
Gladiator has to be one of my favorites. Full of action. Its great.
XXX state of the union was Awesome but with some really lame lines. (never should've put Ice Cube in a movie.)

Mean Girls - I never liked Lindsay Lohan til she got her boob job
S.W.A.T. - just pure sucked
Gladiator - Gladiator?? That one of your guilty pleasures?? That movie is one of the best Epic/Greek Tragedy/Action movies of all time... nobody should ever feel guilty for liking that movie
XXX - umm.. Ice Cube needs to melt away

the whole point of this thread was about guilty pleasures... being movies that you are pretty much ashamed to admit you like. If you loved Gladiator and SWAT and aren't ashamed to admit it.. that's cool and all but, not really having to do with the theme in this thread.
More movies I'm ashamed to say I like:
- Love actually - Iron Monkey (the dubbed version) -Kate & Leopold -Dark City - Scooby Doo

Sedge:
Titanic - Only good thing about that movie were the people dying Love Actually - I like it too The Matrix Reloaded - CGI was good Star Wars Episode 1 - Absolute crap... you're a loser for liking it Final Destination - The only thing I didn't like abou that movie was they made a sequel Event Horizon - Crap. Even worse than liking Star Wars Eps. 1

Pixelbink's really getting into the spirit of it... taunting the picks of other people wthout regard.
- Scooby Doo is just a disgrace... one of the worst movies ever made.
- Dark City was Roger Ebert's number one movie the year it came out.
- Iron Monkey is one of the best Kung-Fu flicks eva eva eva.
- S.W.A.T. got out of control. The opening training scenes were really sweet, but it just went completely crazy in the middle.

- How could Gladiator ever be considered a guilty pleasure? It won tons of awards, was hugely popular and had tons of brilliant action.

Crispin was great in Willard though... another guilty pleasure I guess. Bound to go down as a great cult movie

Super Troopers had some pretty funny scenes. The 3rd Harry Potter was pretty good. They really pick some great actors to go along with the kids.

I just saw one last night that I never thought I would like... In Good Company.
Dennis Quaid and the young executive (can't remember his name, he's the dude from That 70's Show) are really good and that Scarlett Johanson is always a treat.

Oh man.. I like to think I have good taste in movies.. but I do like a few pieces of crap.
The X-Files Movie - I'm a
hardcore fan of the series, and I know it's not the best movie in the
world.. but man.. It's got a place in my heart..
Patch Adams - I am so ashamed for liking this movie. But I do. I can't explain it. I just. Moving on..
Tremors - Okay, I know it was
horrible.. but I remember being scared out of my MIND when I was
younger. (To the point where I wouldn't put my feet on the
ground) Soo I still love it. :)
Super Mario Brothers : The Movie - Everytime I tell someone I love this movie, I can see their respect for me drop. Tremendously.
Howard the Duck - Duck sex.
Candy Man: Farewell to the Flesh
- ...and every other cheesy horror movie ever made. I'm a BIG fan
of cheesy, crappy, unbelievable predictable horror movies. :)
So basically, those are the movies that I only watch when I'm alone. XP

x-files : was okay.. not great, just okay
patch adams : they meant well and it was almost the feel-good movie of the year but they decided to cast Robin Williams as Patch
tremors : still enjoy it
super mario : never saw it... probably never will
howard the duck : love it.. my guilty pleasure too. BTW, was one of the first films I've seen Tim Robbins in
Candyman : was this the second one? didn't the first suck enough?

cheesy horror movie collection.. and much to my dismay I enjoyed
it! :D
Oh man, it's so horrible. I don't know how I can sit through it.
But man, how could anyone like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen?! Heh, I hated that SOOO much.

Super Mario Brothers? Really?
X-Files movie was confusing to me because I didn't watch the show. It seems like it could've been good.
Tremors is an awesome flick. Scared the heck out of me when I was a kid.

I consider the old series to be more of a guilty pleasure since I
watched some of them the other day and damn its cringe worthy.
Really embarassing trash that I was somehow hooked on as a kid.
The new show is great. Actual proper plots and characters and
much truer to the old black and white comics I had as a kid. Do
kinda miss April in the yellow jump suit though

Guilty pleasures, eh? Sin City. delightfully campy and excessive in everything it does. It even has Japanese Fan-boy co-director Quentin Tarantino! I love you Sin City! And I love you Merv. You and your mitts. TMNT is also a big one for me.

I wouldn't say that's a guilty pleasure - it's actually quite a good film. Lohan acted well in it (and that's coming from someone who LOOOAAATHES her) and the story wasn't full of cliches - in fact it was like how it was at my school. :| So yeah, be proud to say you like this one. I do as well.

I think Love Actually was absolutely brilliant. The plot was all over
the place, but it just gave these little vignettes of peoples' lives.
Unfortunately, I saw it on an airplane, and they'd cut out the whole
porn star plot...I still haven't seen that all the way through...
I think my Guilty Pleasures are more...TV shows. I watch the same
episodes of Whose Line? over and over. I watch Ed, Edd, and Eddie, the
Powerpuff girls, Totally Spies, ocassional Winx Club [why? I really
don't know] and Mad TV. I generally claim that I'm just too lazy to
turn the channel...;)

romance movies. I'm usually like ".. blarg.. stop kissing NOW". But in
that one when Fiona said Shrek was fine as an Ogre.. it was.. so..

Tremors (1+2), They Live, The Blob, The Stuff, Alien 3 (everyone seems to hate this one?), Groudhog Day, Child's Play series (though I hardly see them nowdays because it's never on anymore :/), Hellraiser, Cube and Cube Zero, Cabin Boy, Demolition Man... can't really think of more
Hmm yeah, and there are loads of silly 80's movies I used to watch as a kid on the "Sessão da Tarde" ("Afternoon Session"), the name of the movie session Rede Globo (the biggest network here) has on weekdays. Great days...
Oh, and a few years ago they had a "Cine Trash" session in another network, just before Sessão da Tarde, where they aired crappy horror movies. I absolutely LOVED anything they aired there, it was sooo awesome
(I never did homework because of it)

1ucas: Alien 3 had some cool moments and the overall idea wasn't that bad, but some of the plot points seemed kinda lame to me.
Groundhog Day is Bill Murray bringing his A game. Great movie.
Heh, They Live was a neat idea but John Carpenter can be totally cheesy... "I came here to chew bubblegum and kickass and I'm all out of bubblegum."
Demolition Man is indeed a movie that is embarassing to like.

Alien 3 was just...nothing. And it's still hard to forgive them
killing the rest of the 'Aliens' survivors with ease like that.
Groundhog Day (Murray is a comedic genius) and They Live are great and
Demolition Man's bout the only Stallone movie I ever found myself
actually enjoying. Mainly due to Sandra Bullock, Wesley Snipes
and Denis Leary more than Stallone himself.

Actually, that line was adlibbed by Piper
Btw, the original tale the movie's based on, Eight o' Clock in the Morning is pretty cool too.
About Alien 3, I think what hooks me on it is the ambience of the setting (I have a thing for foundries?) and the Alien design. The dog-like smooth-head alien is the best incarnation of the xenomorph, IMO.

Wolverine: Another Demoliton Man fan? How can you not like Stallone in Rocky? It's the great american sports movie.
1ucas: Piper came up with that eh? Well, I still stick by assertion that Carpenter can be a cheeseball. Don't get me wrong... I loved the original Assualt on Precinct 13, Halloween, Big Trouble in Little China and In the Mouth of Madness... I just can't think of a single movie of his where I didn't roll my eyes at least once.
So-lou: The underwater scene and the "alien torture scene" were both pretty cool in Resurrection, but the first two Aliens are untouchable.

Wolverine: Heh, you don't have to be a Yankee or sportsfan to enjoy Rocky -- it's just that America makes a sh*tload of sports movies and 90% of them are just awful. I'm not a fan of any sport except for basketball, but I still enjoy a good boxing story.
I totally forgot about The Thing... one of the best horror flicks ever hands down. That movie is the one (and only) exception to the Carpenter cheeseball factor in my experience.

Oh yeah, definitely Sedge.
The Things is the BEST movie ever - I watched that for the first time eating lasagna - not cool. But it was so funny, I immediately bought it on dvd (my dad had the tape) - and I love the oldschool filming ways of puppets and strings to pull things and loooots of blood and gore - these days it's all CGI crap and little blue-white kids jumping out of places to spook people rather than make them vomit from seeing guts torn out. Shaun of the Dead and SAW are the best horrors out there that can even hold a candle to some of the classics. They don't make them like they used to that's for sure.
OH and I HATE it in horror movies when it shows someone say, about to peel the scalp off of someone with a knife, it shows them put the knife to their head and then the camera...MOVES AWAY...and you just hear screaming to imply it. That only works with Hitchcock - bring us the gore already. Geez.

Think all horror movie makers today better watch The Thing and see how
its properly done. Loved Shaun of the Dead though obviously that
was intentionally more funny than scary.

Definitely! SOTD is so great because it successfully mingles comedy with horror but still manages to hold it's own as a great horror - that's what I see the Child's Play movies as, but everyone is like 'nuuuh those movies are geeeeaaay' - but really, Seed of Chucky is the funniest freakin horror movie around.

still manages to hold it's own as a great horror - that's what I see
the Child's Play movies as, but everyone is like 'nuuuh those movies
are geeeeaaay' - but really, Seed of Chucky is the funniest freakin
horror movie around.
I actually found it quite grim in places because it was a horror movie
set in a regular lil english town pretty much like the one I live in
(Arbury, lil town just outside Cambridge), and it was just unusual to
see masses of zombies roaming around our dinky lil houses and
flats. Bit disturbing how they end up keeping most of the zombies
around anyway. The extras on the DVD are great too.

I'll go with that, although Shaun of the Dead and An American Werewolf
In London are huge favorites of mine too. I was a kid when
American Werewolf was shown on TV late at night, watching it at my nans
place in London. Had just been to Piccadilly Circus and Leicester
Square that day. I turned on the TV while my folks were talking
to my nan and the movie was on at the point where David has changed
into a wolf for the last time and smashes through the front of the porn
cinema and bites off that police inspectors head, and runs off down the
street causing havok. I actually stupidly thought it was the news
and that it was really happening cos I was too young to realise that
movies can be set in real places too. Like Shaun of the Dead it
affected me more cos of its familiar locations. Think that movie
messed with my head...

An American Werewolf in London - that is the coolest movie! I love the whole conversation between David and Jack and David's victims. And I was scared to go down the escalators at the subway when I went to London. I was obsessed with Drop Dead Fred when I was younger and heard he had a small bit in that film, that's why I checked it out. So thankyou Rik! Hehe.... 'A naked American man stole my balloons.' Classic. I might watch it later on.

Heh, yeah. Great scene. Most of them seem seriously pissed off but then
ya got that married couple who are just too damn cheerful, even all
dead and mutilated. The porn movie's funny too.

Heh, suspension of disbelief is usually pretty easy for me... I had to hold back tears when Simba goes up to the dead Mufasa.
Horror/comedy is a lively topic because the majority of all horror movies are unintentionally hilarious. How about American Movie -- best horror/comedy/documentary evaaaaaaaaaa.

I think it's time to revive this topic.
The subject was... list the movies that you're ashamed to admit you love to watch. Not movies that are popular and everyone loves them... ones that are so god awful or just plain cheesy that people will think weird of you.
I don't I mentioned this one before but http://imdb.com/title/tt0085811/ - Krull (not Kull the Conquerer). It was a cheesy sci-fi/fantasy flick from the early-80s. Liam Neeson makes a cameo in this.
Also, I've had my signature posted for quite some time now but nobody has pointed out what "sa-da-tay" is all about. Soooooooo.... bonus points go out to the first person that can name the movie to which it is referring to.
