Hey PixelJoint Community,

I plan on hiring a pixel artist later during development, and was wondering if I could be provided some sample figures so I don't create a game outside of my budget.

In general, how much would it cost (for all assets, not hourly) for:

1) Platformer sprites: 3 different playable characters that have run, jump, attack, and defeated animations.

2) 15-20 different enemies that have movement, attack, and defeated animations.

3) 3-5 different boss enemies that are larger sprites and have movement, attack, and defeated animations.

4) 3-5 different environment sprite sets.

5) UI sprites (menu icons, buttons)

Thanks for the help!

You should be more specific with the details, such as image dimensions of the sprites, perhaps the number of colors sprites will use if that's important, examples of the art style you're after(so that there's an idea of the visual level of detail involved). Frames per animation, etc..
The current details you give allow for a wide variety of answers.

Yes, I agree with AlexHW.
A graphic style with many details or realistic will take
more time to be created so it would cost more.

Also the number of frames counts, each frame is a separate
image so if you want a smooth animation like the Karateka grandpa
you see in my portfolio http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=18041 - http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=18041   ( at the top ) the animator needs to draw
8-9 images.

So, depending on what you want, a very rough estimation for the
project you describe would be between 300$ - 3000$, as you can see
it is very vague, so create a more specific list of assets.
