I'm still pretty new to pixel art and I look at other new pixel artist's work along with mine, then I look at more experience pixel artist and I can't help but notice the lack of detail that went to the more experienced pixel artist! I look at my art to see what I can do to improve but I don't see how I can make my art more complex/detailed :c I'll post one of my art and an experienced pixel artist's art to show the difference for those who don't know what I'm talking about.

Done by CELS, his profile: http://www.pixeljoint.com/p/32715.htm

and then my work

The main thing that sets your piece apart from his is that he is using A) A light source and B) More shading. That's the only real big difference, if you got a distinguishable light source then the details will emerge from the shadows (or I could be talking out of my ass). That's how I like to think of it.

Notice how he can show that there are folds in the cloak only because he has a lightsource, that's what you should be doing with your piece. You gotta use the light to specify detail imho (I'm sure there are TONS of other ways to think about this)

You pick up all these things with practice SO DON'T YOU DARE GIVE UP!

hmmm a light source huh? More shadows huh? Probably also has something to do with highlights also now that you bring it to my attention. I also remember when I didn't know ANYTHING and taking that step of improving felt amazing so I look at it as stages {kind of like when pokemon evolve lol} so I'll probably take a look at some highlight/lighting tutorials to help me along with practice! PS: You didn't comment on my latest piece! xP
